Wonderful, caring facility! I adopted a young dog from them 6 years ago. They were extremely helpful in matching us with the perfect little male morkiepoo who had traveled from a Midwest kill shelter to Suffolk looking to find a new home. We since moved from Suffolk, Virginia to Southwest Florida and love our boy more than anything! He is intelligent, friendly, fun and loves to play. Although he's a southern dog now, he loves people, and loves to show off. We thank Suffolk Humane for bringing "Oakie" into our lives! I don't know what we would have done had we not found this special pup! WE LOVE HIM TO PIECES and encourage you to visit the Suffolk Humane Society to locate an "Oakie" for yourself. Life will be perfect with him or her! OAKIE, you made our lives complete! Thank you SUFFOLK HUMANE SOCIETY! ADOPT DON'T SHOP!!

We adopted a 5 month old kitten the beginning of august, told he had all his shots and deworming and was in good health, this was through petsmart who houses humane society of suffolk animals. We got him home and 3 days later found he had developed an eye infection, had an upper respiratory infection, diarrhea and had fleas and worms. Some of these things are normal from animals from shelters but all at once was a lot and we ended up spending close to $700 dollars at this point on all the things needed to get this kitten feeling better. The humane society volunteer who helped us was very nice and they did give us a free dewormer but then when we went back to petsmart we learned from an employee that he had had these symptoms before we adopted him (he has feline herpes apparently) and this was never disclosed to us at a adoption. When we took him to the vet they told us that he had never received his full dose of vaccines and we had to start all over again and they were supposed to be given to him well before we had adopted him in the first place and they did not tell us this at time of adoption. A little transparency from the humane society would have been nice because then at least we would have known what we were dealing with and it wouldn't haven't stopped us from adopting. Needless to say the cats are all housed in the same area so chances are they do have fleas, possible worms and feline herpes as well. I would never discourage anyone from adopting one of these furry friends but just ask questions about health history, make sure you have a vet appointment set up in advance and review vaccine record. We love our little kitten but it has been a month and a half of a lot of stress for everyone. The volunteers at this humane society are nice but the organization is maybe just not as honest, consistent and thorough as you might like when adopting a new pet. Seems the priority is to just get the animals adopted and not keep up on their health in the meantime. Please adopt, just be aware of the possibility from this shelter.

They don't have dogs here. The office is locked during the day. But it was easy to find and clean. The staff was helpful and kind. They provide a lot of connections and support for animals in the community.

Lee who is the manager is very rude and cold. The animals look scared and sick and are in dirty cages and the food in the cages were not fresh at all. A friend adopted a cat from them and the feline was sick and was not spade. They lied to her about the cat and acted like they didn't care. $95 and they didn't care?? Trashy disgusting people and place.
