The number one reason my wife and I have continuously used this vet is for the wonderful staff, most of all Dr. Surroz. She is one of the kindest people you will meet and treats your pet like family. I can't recommend her enough, you've truly gone above and beyond for Loki and Juliet, and thank you to all the assistants and support staff.

Edit to add: When you read the reviews on this page, please remember that while every single person has a valid experience, 1. a lot of these negative reviews are from people who have just experienced a crisis and are in a heightened state, 2. VCA is NOT an emergency vet and instead directly recommends Wilvet Salem for emergency services, and 3. A lot of us regulars forget to review, but are regulars for a reason. I come here every month and I'm a member of the care plan. I have a senior cat who needs a little extra care, and every single staff member I've talked to here goes above and beyond to make sure she's comfortable and healthy! They're very gentle but efficient, and the care plan is worth it in my opinion - it covers the cost of each wellness check, yearly vaccines, and 1x/yr check-ins like bloodwork, fecal, etc - so the only thing I usually pay separately is just for her actual medication. I won't lie and say it's cheap, but it's definitely not more expensive than similar care in our area, and it's absolutely worthwhile if you need to come in more than a couple times a year.

Terrible place to take your pet, but I guess not surprising for the Salem area. Took my dog here for her annual one year check up and the vet by the name of Surroz refused service after trying to complete the exam with the help of her vet tech. I’ve never been to vet school or been trained with animals, but it seems pretty abnormal to restrain and force feed a dog a lick mat filled with treats just to check their heart beat with a stethoscope. They made my dog feel nervous when she didn’t need to be. The vet failed to get to know my dog and ultimately mad her feel uncomfortable. Quite frankly, she’s not meant to be a vet or work with animals. She even claimed she was uncomfortable doing anything further. A professional, well trained vet that knows what they are doing doesn’t say that. PERIOD!!! Her vibe is off and she’s super unfriendly on top of all that. My dog was great with the vet tech who took her temperature (in her ear) beforehand but as soon as Surroz came in the room, everything shifted. Coming from a family that has had dogs their whole life, including two big Australian shepherds who are nervous at the vet and have been through a lot being pure bred dogs, we’ve never been told a physical exam or vaccine is not possible. Never again will I ever go to a VCA. Luckily, switching vet clinics is pretty simple, so at least there’s that.

If you're tight on money DO NOT take your animal here. They want to charge almost 400 dollars for a visit and blood work, plus the money for the prescription. All I need is a t4 panel and they want to do a whole panel and refuse to give me a script for a LIFE SAVING medication because I can't afford to take him in. There are plenty of vets offices that charge a FRACTION of what the VCA is charging. I made an appointment with Four Corners Vet Clinic and they're charging me less that 100 dollars for the visit AND the blood work. The VCA are scam artists who prey on low income people and threaten to withhold medication if you can't afford the visit. Shame on them. EDIT they just called me back to offer a "lower price" for just his t4 panel. 250 DOLLARS. That isn't a lower price! It's 70 dollars to get his t4 and kidney panels done at four corners. Absolutely ridiculous, stay away ya'll.

They’ve helped my pets so much and have provided us with excellent and consistent care over the years. The staff is always so friendly and helpful. I know my pets are going to be well taken care of when we need to come in

UPDATED AFTER VCA RESPONSE 07/09 Response: In the response from VCA they said my dog was showing signs of anxiety. I saw you had cameras everywhere, so I suggest you look at them to see what really happened. My dog showed 0 signs of anxiety, until the vet acted way too restrictive, causing her to become anxious. My dog was so happy to be at the vet… until Surroz decided to restrain her far beyond what was needed. My dog would have let her do the exam no problem if she was not startled/scared/anxious form her instructing the assistant to shove food in her face while holding her restrained. No wonder she showed signs of anxiety. Btw, before Surroz showed up she did not show any signs of anxiety, letting the assistant stick a thermometer in her ear with NO SIGNS OF ANXIETY. It wasn’t until Surroz was involved that there were issues. But go ahead and blame my dog when it was really your employee that caused this. Again, I see you have cameras everywhere, please look at them. Original review: STAY AWAY! I would NOT!!! come here. It is dirty, reeks of pee, and the vet Surroz is the biggest reason to not come. My one year puppy came in for her checkup and the vet greatly mishandled our appointment. My dog is a social butterfly, made friends with the lady at the front desk to the point she was calling my dog her new best friend. At the start of the appointment the vet assistant was good checking her in and getting to know her. When it was the time for Surroz to give her shots she came in, acting like she was in a huge rush, told the assistant try to grab and restrain my dog. Not sure why she didn’t try to introduce herself and get my dog accustomed to her (you would hope she learned this in vet school). She kept instructing the assistant to grab and restrain her more which led to my dog getting upset and her refusing to serve us. If she had the patience to introduce herself to our dog before she tried to grab her the instant she came into the room, everything would have been fine. Throughout this, she was making rude remarks to us trying to say our dog was the problem. Past visits have not had issues like this but she has always been impatient and rude. Until there is a new vet, or the vet learns to be friendly to animals like the woman at the front desk, STAY AWAY!!
