I volunteer at the shelter almost every Sunday and I truly enjoy it. I go because the dogs (and cats) need and desire love and attention. Everyone here is so pleasant to work with and they truly care about the animals at the shelter!

The GCACE has lots of dogs and cats that need a loving home. There are some that need foster homes because the animal shelter gets full. If you want a pet, consider going to Gaston County Animal Care. Here are 3 little chihuahuas getting transported to Heavens Home Rescue in Sanford, NC.

Arrived with 2 stray puppies that someone had dumped on my property. Sign on door says to take them to the front. The front tells me to go back to the rear door, and someone would come out to the car. Well, we waited for a while, but no one came out. Apparently, no one told them we were waiting. We had to go back into the building to get them to acknowledge that we were there. Then they were asking us questions like we owned the puppies and were trying to get over on a fee or something when all we wanted to do was get the puppies to a safe place. Guess you could say no good deed goes unpunished...

Incredibly helpful. One of the care enforcement officers went out of his way to meet me at the shelter and open it after they had already closed so that I could bring in two dogs that had run away from their home and then later that day after the owner found my posts about finding them the same officer very kindly opened the shelter again and helped her get them back, the same day with no tickets or adoption fees or anything. They are wonderfully kind and I really appreciate them helping me get those sweet puppies back home.
