I was in a tough situation where I could not find affordable housing that accepted pets. Almost homeless I'd come to the decision that I had to give Leo up. I was told they'd find him a good home. I took in with him his harness most of his coats a few of his toys paid the fee and dropped him off. Being blessed like I am I found a place and went to retrieve Leo less than 24 hours later. My poor baby had been stripped of all his belongings everything!!!!! ( At least he still had his balls) I didn't get a toy his harness or even 1 of his coats back. Plus I had to pay a fee again to get him back. Money that was taken from my deposit for my new place. Less than 24 hours he was there cost almost $200. Although I felt kicked when I was already down there was a gentleman older that was very kind to me. Thank you Sir. I still have my baby😋who still suffers from PPS (puppy prison syndrome) as for the policy makers thanks for nothing you made a hard decision a regret. There's no way I'd ever recommend anyone send their baby to animal prison
I tried for a couple of months to adopt a dog they had listed. Contacted them at least 4 separate times, if not more. And not a single response, they didn’t even answer the phone, and won’t answer emails. I truly don’t understand. Do they want these animals to be adopted and have a good home? Or not? Very confusing…. Why even list them online, if you aren’t even going to respond to people? It doesn’t make any sense. I ended up adopting from an animal rescue league. Still can’t help feeling bad for these poor animals at this shelter. Hope they can eventually find good homes.
I love Royal Oak and I am concerned about the Royal Oak Animal Shelter. I scheduled an appointment online and called in the am to make sure someone would be there and no one was. I feel for the animals, I could hear barking and this was at noon on Friday. I arrived early thinking someone would be feeding animals and nothing I left my number on voicemail plus when I scheduled the appointment and nothing. The outside looks just like it did a couple of years when I stopped by to drop off food and no one was there. I worry about the animals there is not a lot of windows and when are they there? Ferndale has a much better Shelter than Royal Oak? Royal oak do something about this please!
Adopted a Dog from here last week, they are very helpful and caring people, our Dog Boo, (maggie), was abandoned , she was terrified of me ,(Men) so they let us visit her for a week or so, and walk/play with her before we adopted, we have had her a week at home now, and she won,t leave me alone now. It,s a very well run and clean , they care.
Tried to donate brand new cat food here. No one ever responded. I don’t understand how this is an animal shelter. No one was even at the building. I feel so bad for these animals. I ended up taking the food to the shelter on John R where they were open and I saw lots of cats that looked like that could really use it.
We adopted our kitty from here and it was such an amazing experience. The shelter is very clean and the animals are very well cared for and loved. You can tell the staff which is excellent really cares about the animals unlike a lot of other shelters I've been to. Their adoption fees are very reasonable and they are very generous and kind and there is no pressure. They also take all kinds of donations so even if you want to stop by to say hello and drop some stuff off it is well worth the visit! Thank you royal oak animal shelter for everything you do.
