Description At 2nd Avenue Animal Hospital we will strive with the utmost honesty, integrity, and compassion to provide our clients and their pets with the leading edge of medicine in combination with the utmost devoted care, in a constant effort to exceed their expectations. Because of a great demand for boarding and daycare space we have expanded to an additional location. We will still be offering boarding and daycare at our hospital but now have a bigger facility which offers more room for our large dogs. We offer everything you could wish for in one location, such as Boarding, Daycare, Grooming and Retail.

I can’t thank Dr. Holt and her staff enough for how kindly they treated us and our Darla. We aren’t regular clients, but they fit us in on a booked Saturday. They didn’t rush us, and our baby was treated with compassion, dignity, and respect. Darla was so much more than just a pet. She was a part of our family for so long, and we are incredibly grateful to you all.

We were in area for short time for classes and had to put our sweet girl down. The staff was very caring and professional. They handled everything for us we got our baby girl cremated and we were able to come get her right away. She now rests in a beautifully hand carved wooden urn. With nose and paw print card. Thank you for being so good at your job made our life little better in such a hard time.

I have been going to this vet for over 15 years and they have probably taken care of 8-10 dogs for me. When I first started going it was great . Dr Lafranc always took great care and my calls and concerns were always answered immediately. Since his departure a couple years ago he left . And the customer care has gone down hill since . I try to call and can’t get anyone to answer the phone . Try to book an appointment online and get no confirmation . I had an emergency with one of my dogs and could not get anyone to answer the phone or call me back had to wind up taking my dog to auburn university hospital to get cared for. After dealing with this for over 2 years we have decided to take our 4 current dogs to another vet. I take great pride in my dogs and very good care of them and expect the same from the vet I use and that is no longer 2nd ave vet.

Took my dog in because she was in pain and couldn’t walk. Doctor said it was a pulled muscle and gave her some pain meds and said she’d get better in a few days. She wasn’t getting better so I called and asked if we could do a follow-up. Receptionist said “the doctor just relooked at the X-rays and doesn’t see anything but you can take her to auburn if you want” ?¿??¿ took her to another vet who did the proper testing and she had autoimmune meningitis so no she was never going to just “get better” until she was cured. Completely dismissive practice. Especially because female Bernese mountain dogs are very prone to getting this so idk why she didn’t have that on her differential.

On Thursday ,May 16 Pepper went missing from my back yard in Pine Mountain around 6 pm wearing a pink collar and leash. I thought she would return home, but the next day she hadn’t , so I decided to post a picture on Fb hoping to help get her home. On Saturday, May 18th I received a comment that a lady had seen my dog at 2nd Avenue Animal Hospital in Columbus, Ga. the day before. I messaged 2nd Ave on Saturday with no response. Monday ( May 20 th) morning I called and spoke to someone that told me she thought they had seen a “stray” on Saturday but they would have someone call me back. I called after lunch Monday for an update - for a different lady to tell me that an older couple brought her in and she was check for rabies, heart worms and general check up but she would have the office manager call me back. I did not recieve a call or text message so Monday afternoon I called again, for same response that the office manager would call me back. Tuesday morning I called back and was told by the end of the day the office manager would call me that she had been very busy. At 4:40 pm on Tuesday I called back and the staff told me the office manager had left for the day. I explained to the staff I was looking for a full blooded Siberian Husky that they may have seen on Friday May 17 and all I wanted was for them to confirm , contact whomever brought her let them know her owner was looking for her and provide them with my number - that shouldn’t be to hard or an issue. Again, I was told office manager would call me back. On Wednesday, May 22 the office manager called me around 2:20pm she stated that an older couple brought in a husky on Friday and that the Columbus Animal Care & Control Center would not accept her due to a parvo breakout and that the couple decided do a complete checkup before welcoming her to their home. Exam was completed and pepper was released back with the couple. Columbus Animal care and control accepted three dogs on the same day that pepper was supposedly put to sleep. The manager proceeded to tell me that the couple returned on Saturday due to pepper showing aggression and that she was euthanized. The messages I received from the witness described pepper was sweet and mild mannered- no signs of aggression. As you can imagine this was a hard pill to swallow - pepper had been part of our family since 2016 when she was 6 weeks old. I called back for more details and answers because none of this made sense. I asked can I pick her up, the officer manager Cynthia told me that she could not release any details due to legalities. I told her they were not concerned about legalities when they put her down for someone that they knew were not her owners. They knew a stray old was completed. Cynthia finally told me that pepper was released to a communal cremation company. I asked which one and she refused to disclose. I took it upon myself to call all pet cremation services in Columbus Ga - Bicity, Legency and Pet cremations of Columbus. All three cremation services had not picked up pepper from 2nd Ave. All three services said they had not picked up any animals from there since Around February. I was still confused , where is pepper , is there a silver lining and is the staff just lying to me? Since, I requested all medical records and made a police report. The medical records are very bizarre. The records show she was a stray just found, on the 18th the record state consultation that the couple may not be able to keep her and vet referred them to pound or shelter ( same day they said she was euthanized). Someone added notes on the 22nd that on the 17 and 18 that pepper was aggressive and vet used her own medicine to euthanize her and not charge the couple. Every time I see someone looking for a lost furbaby I wonder if it was taken to 2nd vet to be killed for no reason.

You can walk in with ANYONES dog without shot records, proof of ownership or even pictures and get them euthanized just based off your word! Justice for Pepper, this "business" is unethical and our pets deserve better!
