I applied to adopt a dog 6/25 and talked to a volunteer that day saying my application was being looked over and I would be able to meet the dog soon. Fast forward to today, I still haven’t met the dog 12 days later. I reached out again, they said they were still working on checking my references, all of which responded that day they reached out which was Monday. I reached out again yesterday and they are claiming my references never responded (they all did i have screenshots) and the dog has “prey drive” for outside cats. He wouldn’t even be meeting my outside cats unless I was ready to introduce them, also it says it was good with cats on his profile… I have been volunteering with animals shelter since I was 12, I work in the veterinary field and I am fear free certified with a masters in animals shelter management. I know what I’m doing to say the least. This type of behavior is why animals are stuck in shelters- I found this experience to be heart breaking and rude, I know my dream dog is out there but it certainly will not be with this rescue. I really hope they learn from my poor experience, they missed out on sending a dog to an amazing home.

I just want to give this rescue a 5 star review! I’d give them 10 stars if I could. Although they could not take in my pup, they helped me share her story and get her noticed. We now have a potential adopter for her thanks to this rescue! Thanks so much Barkville for sharing my Willow so we could find her the most perfect home. We reached out to so many other rescues and they were all very rude and didn’t even want to try to help, Barkville is truly a great rescue and cares about each animal not even the ones in their care.

I respect what they do and they seem like they help a lot of animals in need. They thoroughly screen candidates before adoption/ meet and greets which is nice. Missed out on adopting a pup because no one informed me that someone else was interested and had a meet and greet scheduled before mine. I think they should change that process to avoid people getting upset like me. Heart breaking, but that is the industry I guess.
