Family Pet Health is Rutherford County's first and only Fear Free certified veterinary practice and provides care for dogs and cats as well as exotic pets. We know that many pets and pet parents experience fear, anxiety, and stress when they visit the vet, and this often leads to poor care. We work hard to eliminate these stresses as we fulfill our mission to respond to the needs of family pets in a positive environment. Dr. Shirley, Dr. Nunnery, Dr. Sam, Dr. Robinson, Dr. Dunn, and our LVMTs are certified Fear Free professionals as are 100% of our full time staff. We are located on the southeast side of Murfreesboro and are conveniently located on Richard Reeves Dr. near I-24 Exit 84B.

I can’t say enough good things about Family Pet Health! We just had our first visit and Dr. Dunn and the Vet Tech Kelly were incredibly kind and caring with my dog. My pit bull mix is quite the chaos goblin, but they were extremely patient, waiting out his barking and jumping for him to relax and get comfortable. They did everything in the room and were great about taking it slow and following his cues. I really appreciate the Fear Free approach - having treats and lick mats ready to help him get more comfortable and having the option to perform the exam outdoors in the outdoor exam space. Being a licensed veterinary technician and the pet guardian of a reactive and anxious pit bull it was worth every penny and the 30-minute drive from Nashville. 11/10, Highly recommend!

This was my first time visiting Family Pet Health and I literally don’t have the words to express how grateful I am for their staff and owners, with a special shout out to Kelly. The entire staff was great. Kelly really took the time to make sure our Border Collie was as comfortable as possible, and us humans too! This is by far the best vet visit we have ever had and we be bringing all 7 of our four legged friends here. The environment was calm, the prices were transparent and communicated well throughout the process, checkout was simple and we paid what was expected and a great value of what this place offers. They even have an app to make it easy for communication and future appointments as well a rewards system. We love this place! Thank you so much, for easing my anxiety too!

I will start off by saying I had extremely high hopes for this facility. However, it was very clear after just 3 appointments they were in it for profit and not for the patient. I brought my 4 year old pit mix to the facility for itchy ears and slight bilateral limping in his hind legs. Over the course of 3 appointments I was told my dog had to be given “anxiety reducing medications” prior to even being seen by the vet. Now, I’ve had my dog for years and gone to the same vet back home and NOT ONCE did I have to give him medications to “keep him calm”’prior to going to the vet. He isn’t an aggressive dog he is extremely friendly and loves attention once he knows he is safe. But, the blatant disrespect for the pit bull breed at this facility was unprofessional and simply unacceptable. The second part to this was both vets that I saw were noticeably timid with my dog, like they were afraid to be near him. I am all for safety and caution around a new animal that you are not familiar with. However, the extreme hesitation and uncomfortable demeanor made my pup even more scared to be at the vet. In addition, I had one of the vets mention my dog who is 4 years old needing bilateral ear surgery which would make him go deaf. However, when sending the films back to my vet from home it was very clear that my dogs ears were not nearly in as bad of shape as she was making it out to be. It was clear after the few appointments that we had that they didn’t care about my animal and therefore I will never be back to this facility. They use their “fear free” model to promote a “safer” and more calming environment but it’s just a way to charge you extra and over medicate your animal. So they can make a profit without worrying about your animal.

Family Pet Health is a true winner in the vet business. Their atmosphere was welcoming and fun. We got a SAME DAY appointment in a pinch. The staff was thorough, kind, answered all of my questions and addressed my concerns. My puppy loved the staff and the fear free environment. Bonus- very affordable compared to others in the area!! We are so pleased with our experience here and will be using them for future needs!
