I could give a 0 stars if I could. This shelter, is by far the worst and most inhumane place I've ever been to. Crazy how the main point of a shelter is to save animals, but this particular one, doesn't care at all. We found a stray abandoned German Shepard that was close to the age of 5-6 months which was taken away by Paws due to a unknown person calling them to take away the dog from the property. The German Shepard was taken in by Paws on 12/4. When we first found the dog, it was abandoned by its owner at a hotel and it was running around hiding from people because it was wounded in the leg and scared. We luckily got it into a room to provide it water and food. That's when the guy at Paws showed up with his animal catching pole and dragged the dog out of the room while it was barking for help. The guy stuck his pole inside it's mouth leading to severe bleeding from his mouth. Paws said they would euthanize the dog because "it's a threat to the public". Any dog, especially a German Shepard, that is dragged out forcefully while being wounded and put inside a cage for a week without its owner, is going to be aggressive and territorial. They blamed his aggressiveness when they are the main cause of it. The dog was roaming around the hotel the whole night while it was very busy and not once, did it attack or come in contact with a person. It was hiding rather than attacking someone. This whole week, my family and I, dedicated our full time trying to reach out to multiple non-killing rescues, professional dog trainers, and individuals interested in adopting the dog. We found at least 10 people who were interested in adopting the dog and saving its life because they knew it was at the risk of euthanasia. We even got a rescue to email Paws, letting them know they were ready to take in the dog and save its life. We also got a professional dog trainer to go into Paws and speak with the workers regarding this issue and to tell them there's no reason to put down this young of a dog. German Shepards are quite intelligent in learning new things, behavioral issues are really easy to fix in such a young and smart dog with good training. Paws rejected not only my family, but a animal rescue, a professional trainer, and several people calling to see if they could adopt the dog. The main director of Paws played a main role in this too. We called multiple times to see if they could do anything to save its life and she got super frustrated that we kept calling, even if it was to save a animal's life. I called this morning just to let Paws know that a animal rescue was interested in taking in the dog and the lady at the front told me "I talked to my director about the email and she said none of that matters anymore, so there's no point calling us because it's really making it worse on the dog, the director doesn't want to talk to you guys because it's been talked about multiple times over again." How is people trying to call the shelter and save a dog's life, making it worse on the dog? Most of the staff are uncaring, unhelpful, or simply not interested at all saving an animal's life. Shame on the director and the rude staff we spoke to.
I went looking to adopt a kitten. I was turned down because I ha e an old dog that was a month o er due his shots. Had scheduling issues with the vet. All was good. I said I'd be back by the weekend. I was told they euthanize kittens after three days. I asked the lady if they would rather kill the kitten than take a chance it would be fine in a loving home. I was told rules are rules. There is an older dog there I would love to adopt. But I can't bring myself to do business with people like that
Adopted my dog from here. She had ticks that were HUGE all over her and she was very very dirty. I understand they have a lot of animals and are very busy but they should be taking care of the animals health and hygiene. She just got spayed a few days ago and she can’t take a bath for a few days, why didn’t they give her a bath before the surgery?
Through the years we added loving dogs adopted at PAWs. After 15 years our dog Sadie passed. We adopted Buddy in February of 2023. Paws staff were great.
There are a few things we have to understand about PAWS before criticizing: 1. They are underfunded and swimming upstream. 2. They have limited space in a single facility. 3. They don’t have room for every dog because we as a community refuse to - tag our pet’s collars - microchip them - provide adequate containment and supervision - spay/neuter 4. Their owner surrenders are booked out forever because as Animal Control, they’re legally obligated first to strays, and the strays themselves are overwhelming. Despite all this, they adopt out SO many amazing pets. They keep their records adequately. They spay/neuter/vaccinate/temperament test. They rarely euthanize for space even when they desperately need it. I do a lot of stray captures in our area, and I’ve worked with PAWS on numerous stray surrenders over the years. I wish I didn’t have to, but it’s not because of them. I wish I didn’t have to because I wish all pet owners were responsible and not contributing to this gross crisis of overpopulation.
Would not recommend. They want to charge the people over $100 to surrender their pets but for the people who do want theirs and take care of them they harass you. My neighbors put in a false call to the shelter and they repeatedly came to my home early in the morning with papers. I work night shift and I am a deep sleeper so ofc I didn’t hear anything. Yet, because I didn’t answer they decided that they would say the dog was in danger and that I abandoned her yet they still left her at my home. She had water, food and there was no poop in sight yet they accused me of animal abandonment. They don’t even make sense but when you have power it’s bound to be abused.
