Very clean animal shelter! They have all the available cats right when you walk in and the dog kennels to the right. There’s a few rooms available for you to do meet and greets with the animals you are interested in adopting. At the time we visited they had a couple bunnies for adoption too, so adorable! All of the animals look content and well cared for also.
I had an amazing experience at PAWS. I saw a cat on their website who I was specifically interested in, so I showed up right when they opened to make sure I could have the best chance of getting this kitten. When I arrived, the kitten I had seen online was still available, and I was immediately allowed into a private room to spend time with him and see if we got along. The adoption process was smooth from there. They had vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped this kitten, and I did not have to pay a single cent for my cat or for any of these medical services. They also sent us home with a bag of the food they’d been using at the shelter as well as a generous bag of cat toys. I am so grateful for my experience and for my beautiful kitten who is happy and healthy.
I had my litter of kittens spayed and neutered. The staff were all so great with them and all went very well. I can’t say enough good things about the whole experience or it would be quite a ‘long’, short story! Suzanne Gaudette (Way).
I adopted a dog that they did not vaccine, but they TOLDl me that he was vaccinated at the time of adoption. Now I have false reports of animal neglect (that I have successfully disproven) because the dog that I adopted is an outside dog & neighbors would rather call than have a conversation. But now pause has chosen to harass me over vaccinations and threatening to criminally cite me If I don't get it done over the weekend when all of the vets are closed. I tried taking care of this earlier in the week, but they couldn't give me a straight answer on whether my dog was actually vaccinated. I went up to drop off a report on my cat, and nobody was there. Nevertheless, they again asked for it later — despite advising, I sent it to the email they gave me. So now I need to give them the thing for the third time for my cat and I need to somehow get a vaccination over the weekend to avoid criminal charges for a false report after being given false information on vaccinations. They've sent two officers to my house but they are so completely disheveled to the point they made my situation more stressful than it needed to be. I have zero confidence whether when I give them what they say they wanted, that they won't STILL insist, I'd need to give them the POV's I've already given them OR make up some arbitrary reason to reject the proofs — again.
*Pictures of available pets are on their website. These are current pictures, however they may not be available. They have lots of Puppies and some wonderful Adult Dogs and a couple of Kittens. PAWS is the perfect place to Adopt a wonderful new Fur baby! I personally have adopted five from them through the years. My dog is the only one left since the others have passed away. But I can say that they were All great pets and I loved them! I still miss them too. All pets available have been spayed or neutered, and are given some shots. Younger pets may be to young for a Rabies when adopting but can be brought back in for that shot. It is recommended after adopting that you take them to your vet to have a health check. Plus it gets them used to the vet. PAWS also has Free Spay and Neutering for any current pets that may need that. Along with reduced Shots for Dogs and Cats for Rutherford County Residents. They also do Microchips when they spay and neuter. Also, if your pet is ever lost and ends up there that All pets are checked for Microchips. They will get in touch with the information on file. Be sure to update that when you change your phone number especially;) You can also submit by emailing photos of your missing pet. Their website also shows all animals Found. These are current picture of just some of their beautiful dogs and kittens available now. If you are wanting to get one just know that if you currently have a dog there will need to be a Meet and Greet with the potential dog. This saves you from returning the dog. They may not be best buds immediately but it’s nicer when they all get along. FYI, as a precaution to you and the animal. If you find an injured stray call PAWS and don’t retrieve yourself since they have trained staff and can help the injured animal much faster! I hope you find a perfect pet too;)
I wish this place could be shut down. Like every other Rutherford County department it is dysfunctional and a pain to work with. My wife and I went to adopt the dog pictured below the day after it was posted to their website. Upon walking in I was immediately told that the dog was not able to be adopted with little to no explanation as to why. I went back to look at the dog and he was in a kennel with sheets over him to where he could not see. I went back that night and was told “I can try.” My wife and I moved the sheets and within minutes the dog was more relaxed, wagging his tail, and even laid down near the door. We stayed until close (which is another story) and we asked for next steps and were told there was none. After days of calling, going to paws and rude customer service, I was told the dog was moved to isolation “to be evaluated.” After a week of the dog being at the shelter I was called and informed the dog was put to sleep because of behavior. I do not see how the dog was given a chance to settle down and relax to not be scared. No employee ever told me the behavior the dog was displaying or told me why I could not take the dog other than “behavior.” I wish I could report them so if anyone knows how please tell me because even the night we stayed until close we had walked through and every dog in every kennel had used the bathroom multiple times. When we left the employee locked the door behind us walked to the kennel area and turned the lights off. So the dogs were left in their kennels over night with pee and poo everywhere. I wish this place was not in operation anymore.
