It is a shame I am making this post today. The Napa animal shelter has nice staff and good animals. However, the way I was treated during my last visit has lead me to making this post. I had come into the shelter to meet with 1 of 3 puppies in a litter. I wanted the only female available in the litter. I walked into the shelter and immediately filled out an application to meet with this puppy. As I am finishing the paper, the worker stops me and comments “are you even 18”, I said yes and continued on. 2 separate families walk in as I am turning my paper in, they came to look at the same litter as me. I wait in the greeting room for them to bring the dog as promised, only to be asked to leave the room as there are 2 families ahead of me. I gladly walk out, to realize it is the two families that walked in after me. I ask the staff why they were ahead of me even though I had turned my paper in before they started filling theirs out. They replied “oh the papers must’ve gotten switched up”, I explained my concerns to them, only to be told “there are other puppies in the same litter”. They refused to treat me fairly and I had to remove myself from the building as I was furious. I believe this shelter treated me rudely because of my age(19). If you are young and looking for an animal, I do not recommend coming here. There are tons of better shelters near by that have exceptional service regardless of age.
I love that I can post pictures of my beautiful girl whom I adopted from this shelter. She has grown in leaps and bounds and I am so grateful that I was able to add her to my little family ❤️
The workers are really kind and sweet. You can tell they care a lot about the animals they take care of and they provide quite a bit of stuff, which can be helpful if it’s your first time getting an animal. They answered all our questions and the environment was loving. If recommend this place to anyone! Thank you so much!
It's saddening to see all those animals in cages, so I gave one a new home... She has lots of energy, I'm really glad I got her...
Took my oldest son to shelter to drop off a lost husky he found on our street. She was very friendly and thirsty. I had seen a guy walking her around in the past couple of weeks but didn't know her name or where she lived. She had no collar or micro chip. We went around the neighborhood to see if she acted like she recognized anything or if anyone recognized her, with no luck. So we decided the best thing to do was first post on Nextdoor about her and second take her to the shelter. That way if the owner was looking for her she would be there and be safe and taken care of. My son was told that after 3 days she would be put up for adoption (only 3 days because she was not micro chipped). As you can see in the pictures below, she is very beautiful and we are glad my son found her, before something horrible happened to her. Just hope that she will be reunited with her human. My son said the personnel at the shelter were very nice and friendly. They thanked him for his kind heart and caring so much for animal life and bringing the husky in instead of leaving her out there for possibly a worst fate including starving or being hit by a car and left with injuries or even death.
Our dog got out of the house early in the morning and someone had her picked up by animal control. We are incredibly grateful that she made it home safe and grateful to the shelter for taking care of her.
