I have used the Palo Alto Animal Services for many years now. I have chickens and they have always been wonderful to work with. Jeannette Washington was checking chicken homes way back when and I always found her wonderful to talk with over chicken issues. The agency has also contacted me when they needed a home for a chicken they couldn't place. I'm honored that they trust my care and that they take their responsibility so carefully.

We adopted a sweet little girl, chihuahua mix, Daphnie!! Process was easy and the folks at the Palo Alto Pet's In Need were very friendly and honest! I highly recommend this shelter!

Nothing but positive and wonderful experiences here! I adopted TWO beautiful, healthy kittens for a holiday adoption fee of only $40. Every staff member I worked with was so helpful, so well-informed, and so excited for me to be adopting fur babies. They even provided me with 2 days worth of wet food, a 20% off coupon to Pet Food Express, a bag full of brand new toys, a large crate, blankets, a paper pointing to in-network vets, and just generally great advice for introducing cats into a new home. I'm very surprised by some of the negative reviews on here, and almost wonder if those reviews were intended for somewhere else! I highly recommend this shelter. They really take care of you.

I got my beautiful black kitten from them on 9/21. The employees here were helpful and quick getting me in to visit the cats and transferring ownership to me. They helped me keep track of her vaccinations, gave me useful advice for caring for her, and were generally super sweet. My kitten is sweet, healthy, and well-adjusted and I have to guess that PAAS had something to do with that. It was way more pleasant getting my pet from this shelter than dealing with fosters, cat rescues, adoption fairs, where the cats were stressed and confused and couldn't show us their true personalities.

This shelter put down a young pit bull who was very gentle after only two weeks of stay. Is that even enough to look for his owner. He was sweet and gentle. Jumped into my car when another gentlemen and I gave him a treat. When he first arrived at the shelter in Palo Alto I asked when I could come to visit and help walk him. They said two weeks. When I went back the lady at the front desk said he was put down. They are awe full. He was a puppy.

I feel terrible everytime I come across this animal shelter. I'll never forget how they euthanized my best friends little dog in less than 2 weeks. Puppy was euthanized even though we told the ladies at the front desk that we would take the puppy back if she wasnt adopted in a week and told them we would check in to make sure puppy passes the behavior test because the lady informed us the puppy would have to pass a behavior test. I never knew animals have to pass a behavior test. We checked in at least 3 times that same week. We were told the following week when we called that we would need to pick the puppy up because she isnt adapting well and she didnt pass the behavior test. We told them over the phone we'd pick her up in 2 days (on my off day), we called to let them know we were on our way only to find out that they euthanized her the day before:( My best friend has been battling depression because of this. We could not believe that they put that poor sweet puppy down regardless that we told them we'd pick her up. The excuse we were given was that she didn't pass the behavior test and that she tried to bite. Are u kidding me? and they have to pass a behavior test within 10 days? We didn't believe them. The response we got from the animal service guy who's name starts with a "C" he was so rude and cold and he put this poor puppy down. We never even got an apology. I would never recommend anyone to bring an animal here. They need to ban euthanizing animals here, especially if the owner(s) are willing to take their animal back. We also have rescue agencies that will take these precious animals.
