Description Doggie Protective Services, better known as DPS Rescue, was founded in 2001. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that rescues dogs and cats of all ages, sizes, and breeds from throughout the state of California. We specialize in rescuing those that may be at risk of euthanasia, including pregnant and nursing mama dogs, medical cases, and shy and shut-down pups who do not thrive in the shelter environment. We welcome adopters from Northern CA and beyond; as long as you can come in person to meet and adopt your new family member, you’re more than welcome to adopt from DPS! We do not receive any government funding and rely 100% on donations from our supporters and our community in order to save lives. Adoptions are by appointments only!

We've adopted 2 dogs from DPS, at different times, and really appreciate their thoughtfulness in finding a good home for each dog. Every dog is fostered before being adopted, which allows them to provide a thorough review of the dogs' behavior before adoption. It took us a few weeks to find a dog the first time, as the dogs we applied for were already taken, so you may need to be a little patient. However we think that wait is worthwhile ❤️
DPS is am amazing organization. I have been blessed with the opportunity to adopt dogs from them twice. The work they are doing is saving so many animals lives. You can tell each person involved in the organization has a true love for animals and want to help make a difference!
DPS is an amazing organization with very responsible and caring staff. We have fostered 2 puppies and were extremely happy to see them finding their forever home. If you are thinking about festering, I would highly recommend DPS
We adopted are rescue girl and we absolutely love her. We named her Jemma.
We applied and became foster parents a month ago. DPS has a thorough screening application process. Which involved zoom calls, quizzes and phone interviews. They have very strict guidelines on how to care for their foster dogs. They educate how to feed, help our foster get acclimated to their new surroundings, and veterinary care. They communicate within 10 minutes when we had questions, they constantly inquire about our foster dog and gave advice for anything we needed. Overall, DPS is a very well run, VERY organized, rescue adoption place. Our first dog we fostered was recently adopted, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will continue to foster more dogs. If you are considering becoming a foster parent or want to adopt, I highly recommend DPS. They communicate quickly and their foster parent guidelines are well thought out to help nurture foster dogs.
Our 2.8 pound puppy developed a hernia because DPS was negligent! They offered this puppy for an $800 fee, two days after being spay and DID NOT give us the post-op procedures. We and SNIPBUS have been contacting DPS RESCUE, but they will not reply or respond. I had to take our new puppy to emergency as she yelped in pain when touched due to the sweelingand hernia. You can see my details correspondence with Tera which has received NO response. DPS should cover the emergency vet bill, it is there responsibility ans this would not have happened had they provided medical records upon adoption. Tera, I sent you the message below on 7/7 when Snipbuspeeformed the hernia repair for Jelly. You never respnded. I contacted Melanie from SNIPBUS as we never received the check for the emergency visit on 6/26. Melanie has contacted you as well as she feels her business is not responsible, which I agree with. Your organization, DPS Rescue, was negligent in not providing us with the medical records which showed she was spay on 6/16. It is DPS fault she was not chipped. At the VERY least, the post op procedures should have been given to us. We paid $800 for Jelly, we did our part, but DPS did not. As i already stated on many occasions, the person at the red barn on 6/18 was so overwhelmed. She wanted us to just meet Jelly for a couple minutes and be on our way. We signed documents, brought everything requested, paid via Zelle... no one checked if we had a crate, collar, dod tag, leash. I expect DPS to pay our emergency bill for PetVet. It can be done the same way we paid for Jelly, through Zelle. Jennifer Sent on 7/7: We just had Jelly's hernia repair done. I am even more upset after reviewing the post-op procedures (attached). Why was I not given a copy of this? I picked her up 2 days after her surgery and was not given any medical history as DPS had not had her chipped. Even then, the person at the pickup should have absolutely informed me of this! We were required to bring a collar, leash, dog tag and crate in order to pick up Jelly, NONE of these things were checked and we were not asked if we had them, which we did. This ALL could have been avoided. I would not recommend DPS for people interested in adoption. We had a much more thorough adoption with Pound Puppy Rescue. We are fortunate for the moment she is okay. Hopefully after a week of rest and repair she will return to her playful self.
