Description BluePearl Pet Hospital in Des Moines, IA is a 24-hours emergency vet and specialty animal hospital. Our 13,000 square foot hospital is the largest specialty veterinary center in Iowa and conveniently located just off of I-35/I-80 on Merle Hay Rd. It was formerly known as the Iowa Veterinary Referral Center. We feature a CT scanner, three surgical suites, and six exam rooms. Along with state-of-the-art emergency and critical care services, we offer specialty veterinary care including advanced diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, and surgery.

We brought our cat in today after he was showing signs of being sick (vomiting, loss of bowels, loss of hind leg use) fearing the worst. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed to have a blood clot and we had to make the difficult decision to euthanize him. Throughout the entire process, from the front desk to the doctor that allowed us to be with him during his last moments, we were treated with respect and everyone was very compassionate. My family and I appreciate everyone who works here, and while it's been a difficult day, it could've been a lot worse had the staff not been as professional as kind as they were. Thank you all for what you do, and I'm sure Happy was also appreciative that you all did the most you could for him.

Blue Pearl has the kindest and most thoughtful staff. They took care of our cat so efficiently and informed us of every cost before we made decisions. They updated us often while our sweet girl had to be hospitalized overnight. The staff was incredibly empathetic and made us feel so comfortable in such a scary time. I highly recommend them!

Everyone was so kind, compassionate, and kept us informed from walking through the doors to discharge a few days later. The morning text with a photo of my dog was such a thoughtful gesture. Thank you for taking such great care of my dog. We are so glad to have him back home.

We brought our dog in because she had lost all control of her back legs. The sign said 3-5 hour wait, but since Haley was an emergency they took her right back. They explained the options to us we decided to put her sleep since the surgery that may or may not of helped was very very expensive. They assured us we were making the right choice even though she was a young dog and her condition came on quite suddenly. They gave us some time to love on her and told us s there was no rush.All the staff was very caring. If you have a pet emergency we would recommend BluePrarl.

It’s hard to hear from your primary vet that you’ll have to take your pet to an emergency vet clinic because your pet’s issue is outside the realm of what they can deal with at 5 PM on a Friday. My girl Row & I had never been to Blue Pearl before so we were both a little nervous but everyone we met with from the admins at the front to the doctors & techs, they were all so great, they gave me options for Row’s partial obstruction & showed so much compassion toward our situation. I’m very relieved to know that Blue Pearl is such an amazing emergency care provider in case I have to bring either of my dogs in again. Attached is a photo of Row taking her rest & recovery seriously :)

My cat came in on a Friday with a blocked urinary tract - a common yet potentially fatal complication in cats. They immediately triaged him to the back and I had updates and a plan forward in a matter of minutes. While he was hospitalized, I was able to visit him in addition to twice daily updates. I also called multiple times outside of the regular updates and they were always more than happy to take my calls and give me updates. One of the nurses even sent a photo of him his first morning there and it was greatly appreciated. While the situation itself was horrifying and scary, I was grateful to have the professional and attentive team at BluePearl taking care of my baby Bao. I was never worried about his care knowing the team was there 24/7. Everyone was friendly and I can tell they took great care of him. If your pet needs emergent care, I can't recommend this place enough. Bao and I say thank you!!
