Nothing but praise for Lanette and the other volunteers. They have an online application. They are well prepared and timely in their communications. Lanette went above and beyond. Visiting our home, bring MANY free gifts, toys, food etc. We adopted miss Minnie Mae and she has been an amazing addition to our family. Thank you so much Lannette and Legacy Hummane society.
We had such a fabulous experience with Legacy Humane Society. They made so sure that Oliver was a perfect fit for our home and that is so important. Lucky for us, he was and we love him dearly!
We adopted our girl from Legacy in May of this year. LHS takes their application and screening process seriously to ensure the animals in their care go to good homes. Within 2 weeks of submitting the application, we had our meet & greet. The foster was very quick to respond to us and made sure we knew the policies and procedures regarding the meet & greet and then moving forward with adoption. During the meet & greet, we had time to meet Acacia and then introduce her to our dog and see how they interacted. It went well, and we got to move forward with adoption. The records for Acacia were well organized and up-to-date, making it easy to transfer care to our vet. It is clear the fosters want the absolute best for their animals. The fosters are going to make sure your family's activity levels and commitment to the dog are what the dog needs in order to ensure a happy forever home...and that is exactly what a rescue organization should do. We couldn't be happier with the process, open communication, and dedication from Legacy Humane Society.
I am a foster (4 years) and an adopter twice through Legacy HS. I love fostering with this group because of the willingness to help any animal that I ask about. All fosters are 100% volunteers. We give up a lot of free/family time and sometimes our own $ (by choice, not necessity) to help. It seems like some of the bad reviews were because they weren’t approved to get a certain dog. As a foster, we try the hardest to place a dog with the right family for that particular dog which changes with each individual dog’s needs. Most of the dogs that we get in are throw aways/unwanted and having come from an unstable environment. Our goal is to change that by placing in a forever home that is best for their needs. The adoptions all come with a 5 day trial and before that starts everyone is fully aware of what exactly is required especially if they aren’t spayed/neutered. The way that this rescue has managed to help so many in need and especially cover their medical care and yet still adopt out for a low fee is simply incredible and they definitely don’t get enough credit for all they accomplish. You really have no idea until you get involved. It’s also the best feeling in the world when you can help fix a dog either behaviorally or medically. Hands down an AMAZING rescue!!!!
I am sure they do good work but they are almost impossible to get in contact with. I applied for several dogs and always had to email them multiple times to get a response from the Legacy Humane Society people or a foster parent. They gave me the excuse that the volunteer foster parents have full time jobs but in this age of technology how long does it take to write an email? One of the dogs I applied for even went on a trial adoption and then was returned and I still was never contacted about my application for her. I ended up adopting through another rescue who got back to me in less than 24 hours.
I have been not only dissatisfied with these folks, I truly wish I could give them no stars. I have shared my life with rescue dogs for more than 30 years and have dealt with numerous humane society groups. And before trying to interact with Legacy - Rockwall, I have never once encountered any difficulties. I can tell you that these folks are the worst I've personally encountered. I completed the application and got an email in about 2 days (which is a rather slow response time for most rescue groups), and that was the last contact/reply from them I received. I was told that the foster family would contact me to arrange a meet and greet but that has never happened. Not a word. The website only works consistently with two browsers for filling out the application and the site is very buggy. The overall process to contact them is too long and drawn out. It is frustrating for those wishing to adopt! I had one exchange with them over the site not working with multiple browsers, and the person that responded was rather rude and tried to blame me for their issues. I get the strong impression that the folks in Rockwall have no clue how hard they are making it on themselves to find suitable adopting families, nor do they seem to care. If the folks at the main shelter in McKinney care about the reputation of Legacy Humane Society, they should really have a very long talk with the folks running the chapter in Rockwall and get some new folks who are not jaded, not rude, and who do not act "holier than thou" to potential adopting families.
