Our helper was a very nice guy. Took care of my Moms. She wanted a companion and it being a male kitten. 1st one we saw, we looked at all of them, Golum was the one. Runt of 3 that were in cage. K helped with paper work, let Moms Foster/adopt him until shots and neuter are done. The cutest little guy, on the way home thinking of a name. "Marshall" it is. So playful and she loves him bunches. Thank you Humane Society!
This shelter does a lot for the community. Helps the animals, helps employee the community, and helps the community with animal welfare needs. It has great staff and volunteers who go the extra mile and put in hard work day to day. I highly recommend coming in and seeing the facility and getting to know the staff, and maybe finding an animal to adopt. There is a TNR program and a food pantry for helping feed the public's animals if they need assistance. Picture of puppy we adopted included!
Went to go look at a kitten right after I got off work, 30 minutes before them closing. My wife and I were 100 percent sure we wanted it but we were told she wasn’t ready also couldn’t put a hold on her but to keep checking. We were assured by the front desk we were the only ones who asked about her so they would keep a note for us. Unfortunately, I worked the following day so my wife went again the next morning 8 min into them opening and when she went to go check on the kitten my wife was told the kitten was already adopted and that the person is on there way to pick it up. Keep in mind we were told adoption has to be in person and can’t be by phone. I’m aware it’s not the poor animals fault but there is a lack of professionalism and communication there by some of the staff members, I would like to note though some of the staff is very welcoming and kind but this is probably the last time we go to try adopt there felt like we were lied to for personal convenience.
I have several questions about the state of vet care in AZ and especially Yuma. Apparently there isn't a consistent after hours emergency vet. My neighbors dog got hit by a car about 6 pm on and Friday and they drove frantically around town and calling different office. They were unsuccessful and returned home. I was able to get them the contact information for the Animal Hospital in San Luis. They were able to take their dog there and got the care needed. I would recommend them to anyone. They were able to address the injuries of leg and rib fxs along with punctured lungs and bladder. She has returned home and making a good recovery. They are very reasonably priced, have a US phone number to call and will pick you up and drop you off at the boarder if you walk across. They saved my girl with surgery a couple of years ago and it cost me less than a regular vet visit and x rays at a local vet. The humane society has good programs and are able to assist during business hours. The people there seem to really love the animals and I know they are always looking for good volunteer. Also love the thrift store. It's a great way to support HSOY.
I visit regularly. The animals are well cared for. I would like to see more free adoption events in hopes to promote more forever homes and a faster turn over. Or even short term foster families. Some families would love the opportunity to bring a fur baby home on a trial visit to see if the pet can manage during work, education and training in the absence of human connection.
The staff is caring and honestly helpful. They took extra time to research a problem I had and also informed me of an illness spreading in animals being brought into the facility. They really are there for people and animals.
