They hid my review from a few years ago so I am going to post again! This rescue felt more like a puppy flipping service. Taking on way too many dogs than they can handle, putting them in boarding when they can’t find fosters (because there’s just not enough) and adopting out at pet expos..it’s all very weird operation. I filled out an application one night to adopt 1 dog and got a text that same night about a 911 situation with a mama and 9 puppies...I have never had any experience with puppies before and probably something they should have asked before fostering them out to me, but I figured it out. They claim they pay for everything, but while I had them I had to buy tarps, wood pellets, a bin, XXL pee pads, nail clippers, milk replacement, fish oil and even food...I drove 30 minutes the first time to pick up puppy food and all that was there was adult food..the second time, the foster at the pickup location would not respond to me about a time/if I would actually get the correct food this time. I had them for almost a month before receiving covid. If anyone has had the worst of symptoms with covid, you can only imagine how hard it was the first week I felt like death while taking care of 10 dogs. I was the one who found a new foster, Rebecca didn’t even wish me well. I set the new foster up with literally everything I bought and even threw in toys/treats for them. Move forward a few weeks, I’m covid free but back to working full time in our office. I get a text saying the new foster I found was in the hospital. I told Rebecca that was I back to working full time (not at home). Her response, “so you can’t foster them for her?” When I explained that it’s not in the best interest for 10 dogs who have no one to let them in/out while I’m gone 10 hours a day and how this was super unexpected, I just couldn’t help, I received no response and got deleted from the group. A thank you for what I already did would have been nice. Very unappreciative, unorganized and only care about flipping dogs as fast as they can.

My husband and I have adopted from Douglas County Canine Rescue twice. We adopted huskies which are known to be a difficult breed. The rescue was very selective and cautious about who the huskies were adopted to, and I really appreciate that given how much work huskies can be. Their adoption process is strict and thorough which can put some people off, but it just shows they’re really in it for the animals. They seem to be a great organization who does their best to place and save as many dogs as they can.

I had a great experience working with the folks from DCCR. It was my first time adopting a rescue and the process went very smoothly. They are very thorough in making sure you will be a good fit for the dog and that they will be in a good home. It was nice to know my new pup got to spend some time in foster care with other dogs which helped out with the transition. His foster was super nice and even offered to watch him if i ever needed to travel. They were really nice folks to work with. I recommend.

Had such a great experience adopting a schnauzer with DCCR! We had applied for so many rescue schnauzers for the past three years and either never heard back or weren’t selected. The team at DCCR almost instantly contacted our references after I applied, sent me a text to let me know I was approved, and let me know which dogs were still available. It all happened quickly and with a very human touch - no form emails or robotic responses, just people texting people. It was really nice. Everyone was so kind, understanding, and accommodating, even when I was almost 30 minutes late on gotcha day due to car trouble. Melissa, Samantha, and Heidi (our pup’s foster) really made this adoption so smooth and special for us. Our grumpy bear was so well taken care of, and he’s been one of the easiest rescue pups you’ll ever meet (so far…). Thank you, DCCR!

We have adopted two puppies from DCCR over the past year and a half. They are wonderful. They check and call your references and make sure you are a good fit for the dog. They take excellent care of the dogs/puppies. We were able to FaceTime the foster mom and see the puppy in their environment and how they play with others and act. I was lucky enough on my first adoption with them to see my puppy’s mom and siblings, as well. I even recommended them to my friend who adopted a puppy and she was just as happy as we are. I highly recommend DCCR. I know I will be adopting from them again!

I rescued my girl 5 years ago and I couldn't be happier. She was already trained and had had a litter of puppies. I was hooked when we first met at a foster home. I can't believe anyone would have left this poor girl to a kill shelter in Texas but thankfully DCCR brought her here where she can be loved the way she deserves.
