My wife Micky and I just rescued a beautiful young lady named Heidi. We loved her the minute we layed eyes on her. The entire process with Bluegrass was seamless. They are extremally cautious who they adopt their dogs out to for the well being of the dogs and I well respect that and thank God I made the cut! The rescue owners are amazing to work with! I highly recommend this amazing rescue! Thank you for my baby and for all you do! Micky & Joel Janczak

We've adopted two of our dogs from the Bluegrass Doberman Rescue (Buster and Izzy), and I couldn't be happier with the rescue. They really care about the animals and are diligent about the screening process and following up about the dogs. Doberman are not always an easy breed for first-time dog owners and the rescue is dedicated to providing education and resources to anyone who is interested in this amazing breed. Adopt, don't shop!

This review is for the employee or volunteer named Melissa. I have a Doberman mix who has become a lot to handle above my means so I emailed to see if Bluegrass Doberman Rescue could help rehoming/adoption. Per Melissa’s reply they do not deal with mixed breeds. That is absolutely fine. The problem is Melissa fixing herself to patronize me at the end of her reply by adding that “surely you thought about the needs of a puppy before getting him”. It has been agonizing to come to the decision that we are not the best family for him. This was a thoughtless and callous remark from a rescue group who you would think would understand compassion above everything. I wish your business the best of luck but Melissa needs training on how to be professional with every transaction if she is going to be support for an organization that I would assume benefits greatly from donations and volunteer support.

Bluegrass Doberman Rescue is a Wonderful Organization! As I type this my sweet Red Dobie Luna is laying across my lap. I haven't the heart to let her know she's not supposed to be a lap dog. Of course, it's fine by me. Anyway, I am so grateful to Bluegrass Doberman Rescue for the wonderful work they do. I'm sure it's hard sometimes, having to deny some individuals from rescuing a Doberman but as Bluegrass knows it takes a special place and special person to own a Doberman. Dobermans are amazing dogs but they do require a lot more than just a lot of love, they require a ton of training and a lot of work! They need walking and a ton of exercise, every single day, rain or shine. They require persistent training and they require socialization with other dogs and other people. They of course, are so worth it but again, they require a lot of work. I am so grateful to Luna's first very loving parents, whoever they are because they loved Luna enough to realize that she needed more than they could give, to me, that's love. So I know they are wonderful people, they just realized Dobermans, no matter how sweet, require a lot of work and training. At least I think that's what happened, I could be wrong. Of course, without the terrific organization Bluegrass Doberman Rescue, Luna wouldn't have had such a safe place to go. I love my sweet Luna to the moon and back but she required a lot of training and even today, she still is reminded who the top dog is in in this household. Thank you, Bluegrass Doberman Resuce!

Everyone at Bluegrass Doberman is amazing. They take such great care of the dogs and really ensure they go to their forever home. They do a thorough check on prospective families to ensure that the dogs are going to a safe and loving home. Almost every dog that comes through their doors is HW positive. The rescue pays for the treatment and any follow-ups that are necessary. This rescue is fairly new, opened in in 2017. However, in that short year they have taken in over 100 dogs. What this rescue does is truly amazing. If you are looking to become a foster parent, adopt a doberman, or simply looking for a non-profit to donate to..BGDR is a great option.

LOVE this rescue and the work they do. Although they are a newer rescue (and it’s not a shelter, all dogs in the program are placed in foster homes until they are adopted), the people involved have decades of combined experience rescuing and rehoming Dobermans. They go above and beyond to ensure all dogs who come into the rescue receive any and all medical attention necessary (the number of senior, special needs, and medically neglected dogs they take in is astounding), and are properly evaluated before heading to an approved adoptive home. All potential adopters are thoroughly vetted and their homes evaluated before any adoption is considered. They truly care about the well-being of these dogs, and do all they can to ensure their “happily ever after.” These folks are amazing.
