Since when did Lowndes Animal Control begin a practice of seizing (dogs) from individuals who stopped in to inquire about any reports or calls for a lost dog. When in conversation they asked where was the dog found. The answer was Brooks county. " (We cannot take that dog!) Good I didn't stop here for that; I was on my way to my vet. to Lake Park to have the chip read if he has one!! We can do that for you the woman explained. Naturally the dog had a chip/ rabies tag! Next thing said is (we cannot give the dog back to you!!! Why we asked? Because that would be stealing.!!! No one.stealing here but the animal control !!! You can Annie up 20.00 dollars and we will put you at the top of the adoption list for pickup next Thursday. He will be nurtured and ready for pickup with an additional 60.00 bucks!!! If no comes forward. The rabies tag was issued in Jax.Fl. we had already called about! Thursday morning the dog was taken to a vet in Thomasville an relieved of his manhood.. Really a Metropolitan city has no other means!! Who makes up the rules at this primitive shelter that ignores the feline population in Lowndes county which is epidemic!! Animal lovers will see to refugee animals without this drain on the city's coffurs....
This was one of the cleanest animal shelters I have been in. Everyone was helpful and very knowledgeable! We love our sweet new addition to our fur babies Josie! Thank you Grey for making this an easy adoption!!!
I've visited this shelter a few times and found that the staff is just okay. They have been cordial, but nothing to give a 10 star. On my last visit to this shelter, I found it to be in deplorable condition for the dogs. The location where they're bordered had the most awful smell. It was as though the area hasn't been cleaned, sanitzed or washed down in days. The poor pups were literally stepping and lying around in their own urine and feces. This last visit was such a terrible experience for my son and I to see how there appears to be no TLC given to these pups. "Who would want to return"? The cats on the other hand area were much better. There needs to be something done with this facility by having policy and rules implemented to take care of these animals much better. I've never seen anything like this in my hometown of Miami Florida and if anything were run like this facility, it would be closed down. Lowndes County Animal Shelter, you need to do better. 👎
I had the greatest experience on May 25,2024. My friend got bit by a stray cat I called the Lowndes County Animal Shelter. The Officer that was there C. Singletary was the most Awesome person that I spoke to. He went beyond his duty to tell me what to do about the situation. Even when the Ambulance came he stayed with me on the phone. He even called me at the Hospital to find out how she was doing.
Brackzy was spayed a week ago and Jaxon neutered this week. The entire staff has been so caring and wonderful. What a Blessing!!!
This animal shelter is amazing. I fostered kittens for them & Hannah helped tremendously with the process. I’ve also adopted through their program. They take great care of their animals & are a nice shelter in Valdosta.
