I've visited this shelter a few times and found that the staff is just okay. They have been cordial, but nothing to give a 10 star. On my last visit to this shelter, I found it to be in deplorable condition for the dogs. The location where they're bordered had the most awful smell. It was as though the area hasn't been cleaned, sanitzed or washed down in days. The poor pups were literally stepping and lying around in their own urine and feces. This last visit was such a terrible experience for my son and I to see how there appears to be no TLC given to these pups. "Who would want to return"? The cats on the other hand area were much better. There needs to be something done with this facility by having policy and rules implemented to take care of these animals much better. I've never seen anything like this in my hometown of Miami Florida and if anything were run like this facility, it would be closed down. Lowndes County Animal Shelter, you need to do better. 👎
This was one of the cleanest animal shelters I have been in. Everyone was helpful and very knowledgeable! We love our sweet new addition to our fur babies Josie! Thank you Grey for making this an easy adoption!!!
I had the greatest experience on May 25,2024. My friend got bit by a stray cat I called the Lowndes County Animal Shelter. The Officer that was there C. Singletary was the most Awesome person that I spoke to. He went beyond his duty to tell me what to do about the situation. Even when the Ambulance came he stayed with me on the phone. He even called me at the Hospital to find out how she was doing.
Brackzy was spayed a week ago and Jaxon neutered this week. The entire staff has been so caring and wonderful. What a Blessing!!!
This animal shelter is amazing. I fostered kittens for them & Hannah helped tremendously with the process. I’ve also adopted through their program. They take great care of their animals & are a nice shelter in Valdosta.
I adopted my two fur babies from here and oh my goodness, I have never met cats this sweet and loving before. Blossom (Female torbi) was 8 weeks old when I got her. They told me to feed her wet food but offer dry food on the side and it worked great. Apollo (Male grey) was adopted at 10 weeks. He was big for his age so they told me he only ate dry food and specified to NOT give him wet food because he’s too old for it. This was incorrect. When I brought him home, Apollo’s teeth weren’t developed enough for hard food and I guess the shelter never noticed it since they had so many kittens. He preferred wet food until he got a week or two older and then switched to dry food. The only reason I took a star away in my review is because they specifically said not to give Apollo wet food since he was “too old” and “only ate dry food”. This was clearly not true. I don’t blame the shelter for it, they have so many cats and so few people that it’s hard to keep track. I’m sure the other kitties in his cage enjoyed the dry food but Apollo struggled to chew it. Also, give your cats a bath with some dawn dish soap when you bring them home. Both Apollo and Blossom had a couple fleas from the shelter, which is expected.
