I am a volunteer dog walker/ foster for this shelter and I just want to state that they have the most beautiful animals I’ve ever seen. Seriously, if you’re looking to adopt a new pet, you have to check out this shelter! I have seen basically any breed you could possibly imagine here! If you don’t see what you’re looking for right away, keep checking their website. I’m telling you, you’ll find what you’re looking for. Please adopt instead of buying a pet! You’d be saving their life. The staff here is great, they really care and try to help these dogs. They need more dog walkers and fosters though, so please volunteer! The foster program supplies you with everything you’d need to successfully foster. See below for a list of dogs I’ve seen here (I’m sure I’m missing some, and of course there’s gorgeous mixed breeds too): Alaskan Husky Alaskan Malamute Australian shepherd Beagle Belgian Malinois Border collie Boxer Chihuahua Dachshund Dalmatian Doberman Pinscher Dutch Shepherd English Bulldog French Bulldog German Shepherd Golden Retriever Labrador Retriever Pit Bull Rottweiler Siberian Husky Vizsla Yorkie
We adopted 2 dogs from here. It was very easy and the nicest government shelter I have seen. We went home with medicine for the dogs, collars, leashes, and the staff was super helpful. They obviously love the animals and are patient with rude entitled customers. The shelter also supports local college students, giving them hands on experience before they finish their degrees. Great place all around!
Excellent animal shelter that’s been the staple of giving necessary care for the animals for a very long time. The facility is very clean, no bad smells, and looks like the animals are well taken care of. Very detailed oriented facility which is a good thing. Many of these shelters are overwhelmed with animals due to irresponsible people breeding or tossing them away like getting rid of their old stuffed animals. The shelter workers do their very best to give these animals love and support they so deserve. Although, customer service can be slow, I understand and appreciate the time they take and the meticulous process & protocol they have to follow because at the end, everything is for the wellness of the animals. *Please consider adopting or fostering if you are looking for a pet*
I can't get my dog vaccinated from this place because my ZIP code is not under their jurisdiction. The other animal shelter in Sweetwater which is only about 3 miles from where I live and will not do it either. I have to go to San Diego Humane society in Morena Blvd which services my ZIP code and it's about 10+ miles away. I don't like the system.
I absolutely love this place. I've gotten three of my pets here and they are the most amazing, sweetest little babies. I adopted one of my past cats here back in 2014 and she just passed last year. This shelter truly cares about its animals and it shows with how they give back to the community. I got one of my dogs for $0 during their Christmas clear the shelters event and this is the only shelter I've seen (at least in san diego) that will do that because all they want is for these animals to go to good homes. I truly appreciate this facility!
I came to this shelter with an animal background, and now have been volunteering for 9 years! They are hands down blood, sweat and most often tears deep in their devotion to the animals! No matter how busy my life gets I am always drawn back here to the people and of course the animals! It is my second home!❤️
