Description San Diego Humane Society is our region’s safety net for animals in need. We provide the animal services for 13 cities: Carlsbad, Del Mar, El Cajon, Encinitas, Escondido, La Mesa, Oceanside, Poway, San Diego, San Marcos, Santee, Solana Beach and Vista. A national leader in animal welfare, we care for more than 40,000 animals annually by providing shelter, veterinary care, behavior training and more. We also contract with jurisdictions to provide animal control, lost and found, licensing and humane law enforcement services. Great place! They take great care of the animals in their care. They were very helpful and the process was very easy and fast! Me and my boyfriend were very fortunate to get our cat Emerald from this location. He’s the best cat we could ask for!

I've adopted 3 of our pets from here. They gave us information regarding their background. We spent time with our first pet, a dog, in 2016 before we adopted. He was a perfect fit. Then we adopted a hamster from the humane society through pet smart. He was the best. 2 weeks ago we adopted a beautiful kitten, he's so playful and gets along great with the dog we currently have. ❤️ I'm thankful for places like these. I encourage everyone to adopt. Our first dog came from a very bad situation and with us he got a ton of love until the day he passed. These defenseless babies need all the love we can give, they deserve it. Please adopt. You can also buy, as you could also be saving a life by buying, but adopting is almost a sure way to know you are rescuing. 😉

My family and I just adopted the most beautiful sweet pup we ever encountered 7 week old Pita Chip now renamed Lola. All the staff was so great providing us with the information needed in order to secure us with the right pup. From the medical staff to the adoption staff everyone is so amazing. The process took less then 20 minutes, it’s sad that my family and I are moving to NC in May of this year 2024 but I can promise hands on the Bible if we are ever looking for an additional member of this family we will definitely take the trip down to the humane society in Escondido to find the right match for this family

Taking advantage of the Counties “Community Cat Program”. We have had a feral cat since last summer in the neighborhood, primarily our backyard. She had a litter over the winter and two of her kittens having growing up here. Recently, she had a second litter, which is more than the neighborhood can support. Using a trap borrowed from the Humane Society, we were able to rescue the newborns as well as mom and take them in. Our understanding is that they will be well taken care of until they’re a little older, and then sent for adoption. Mom will become a barn cat. We then turned our attention to the juveniles, one of which we trapped last night and took in this morning. 4 1/2 hours later, we were able to pick him back up having been sterilized, vaccinated, examined, and treated. Tonight, after he’s feeling better, we will release him back into the habitat for him to hopefully live a good long life. Next, we need to get his sister and do the same for her and let her come back as well. Although, getting someone on the phone at the facility can be difficult as they are constantly busy, the staff are very friendly, knowledgeable, and obviously care. I’ve made four trips out there in the past week, including around a large storm that came through and they’ve been nothing but helpful. No cost, other than your time and a reasonable refundable deposit for the trap. It’s a good thing for the cat, as well as our neighborhood as they are great “Mousers” and fun to have around. Well done San Diego, Humane Society, Escondido, Campus!
