The team here is wonderful. They take very good care of the animals here! We adopted our very lively and loving kitten Squirrel here in October and we were impressed at how intentional they were in making sure she was healthy and ready for adoption before allowing us to adopt her.

I’ve been in many shelters across the country and I must say, this is the cleanest, most well cared for shelter and dogs with the most knowledgeable and professional staff and volunteers. The care and dedication given to the animals is felt from the minute you walk in the door to their follow ups post adoption. I would highly recommend adopting, fostering and/or volunteering at Lake Norman’s Humane. Excellent organization, fabulous people and adorable animals looking for homes.

We adopted our sweet little fella from LKN Humane and it was a great experience! Their animals are so well cared for, and the staff is exceptionally helpful and friendly. Their website is super easy to navigate and the shelter hours accommodate most schedules.

I adopted a sweet dog from here over a year ago, and unknowingly got a special needs dog on my hands. She had been in the shelter for almost a year, yet her ribs were showing when we first adopted her, and I think part of me just felt very pitiful toward her. It took months to get healthy weight on her and even had to have vet intervention to aid in helping that. Everything ranging from physical health issues to severe neurological problems, I am several thousands of dollars in the hole from getting her veterinary care and training, and I wish I could say she's improved but she hasn't. I really recommend a humane society like Charlotte Humane, as they do much more extensive screening on their intakes like group play screening where they can analyze if a dog is reactive around other dogs, etc. It's really unfair for someone to adopt an extremely reactive dog and not know that beforehand. I understand wanting to get dogs adopted and out of there, but the fact I got roped into a special needs dog without knowing is beyond not okay. I will continue to give her the best quality of life she can have and lots of love, but I will never suggest this humane society to anyone else because of the lack of transparency.
