Description We are not just a rescue, we are a refuge; a safe haven for the dogs most in need. We focus on the dogs most in need of saving - those who have been abandoned by their families, the strays, the starving, the injured, the sick, and those in dire need of help. We take them in, rehabilitate them, provide housing, vetting, training, and extra doses of love. Whether at our physical site in Stamford, CT or placed with one of our rescue partners, every dog we commit to is guaranteed love and a beautiful life with the forever family they so deserve.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog from a wonderful spot, look no further! From the minute we started the process, it was smooth, easy, and everyone was so kind and helpful! We ended up adopting a cutie cattle dog/German Shepard, Parker and feel so lucky to have him! Lucky Dog has remained a part of our family by boarding him as an alumni and helping us find the best people to help train our guy! Lucky Dog is the best and we are so lucky to have them as a part of our crew :)

I adopted my two girls from Lucky Dog. We love Lucky Dog Refuge so much. They are doing incredible work and helping the most vulnerable. The staff is wonderful and the dogs are so loved and cared for, for as long as it takes to find them a home. I also volunteer when I can and it fills my heart with joy to be around the Lucky Dogs. If you are thinking about adding a dog to your family, go to Lucky Dog. Adopt don’t shop!

I had the pleasure of volunteering here for the first time today. Creating an account on their volunteer website and filling out the application was super easy. I then booked a time slot to walk a dog. The process was straightforward, and I’m so glad I did because this organization is truly dedicated to the dogs. For my first dog-walking experience, I walked Willow (who has since been adopted!). You go with employees and the dogs they are walking. I was with Olivia, who was walking Sadie, and Cameron, who was walking Lola. They go over the rules and process before you head out on the walk. I recommend reading all the information on the website beforehand so you know what to expect as a volunteer. The walk was lovely. Willow was such a good dog, and all three dogs were so well-behaved. You can tell the employees really care and are very knowledgeable. They will guide you if you have questions. I’ve already scheduled my next session. If I didn’t already have three rescue dogs, this would be an organization I would adopt from because the level of attention and care these animals receive is amazing. It’s heartwarming to see an organization giving animals the love, care, and attention they deserve. I also met other volunteers in the parking lot who were so kind and have been volunteering for a long time. Seeing the community of animal lovers they’ve created with their volunteer program is inspiring. If you have an hour and are able to get around easily to walk a dog, I highly recommend volunteering here.

This place is the absolute best. I have been volunteering for almost a year now and always look forward to it. It’s very easy to get involved and you can sign up for shifts around your schedule. The dogs are all very cute and I love every moment spent with them. Plus they have the fashionable winter coats. The staff is also very friendly and kind. Great place to donate your time, supplies, or funds. They do such fabulous work!

I've had my Lucky Dog for a little over a year now and she's the best thing that ever happened to me! I volunteered here for a few months; one day signed up to transport a pup to an adoption event and ended up adopting and taking her home myself that day! The staff was really helpful while going through the process (took a few hours) - I was so happy that I could take her home that same day. All the pups are taken very good care of and always have all their shots etc. Lucky Dog makes the process super easy with all the proper measures in place, and I've enjoyed continuing to volunteer with them!

When my husband and I first moved to Stamford, I started volunteering by walking dogs at LDR. It was so convenient to sign up for 1 hour shifts (or more) based on your schedule. You are paired with a pup and you walk around Harbor Point. Every dog I walked was so sweet and special! After a few months of volunteering, I fell in love with Bahama Mama and her pups! We adopted our first dog in March 2023 and he’s the perfect addition to our family. LDR is always available for any questions we have and we feel so supported by them. We can’t say enough great things about this organization - they are truly incredible!!!
