Description We are an international registry of certified therapy dog teams. At ATD, we provide testing, dog certification, registration, support, and insurance for members who volunteer with their dogs in animal-assisted activities. Our objective is to form a network of caring individuals and their special dogs who are willing to share smiles and joy with people, young and old alike. All dogs tested for ATD’s Dog certification must be up-to-date on vaccines and have had a negative fecal exam in the last year. There is no restriction on diets or supplements given to our canine members. Dogs may also be fed treats on therapy dog visits if the facility also allows treats. ATD is open to registering any breed of dog except wolf or coyote mixes.

We are certified with Alliance of Therapy Dogs. Every time we have a question or concern, ATD always steps up and gets us an answer. They are very professional and friendly. They also provide leads to volunteer opportunities. If you are interested in become a certified therapy dog team, I highly recommend getting certified through Alliance of Therapy Dogs.

I had an extremely negative experience recently with ATD. Local TO chastised and talked down to me for breaking a rule. I know the rules. I broke that rule because I know it's in the best interest of my dog. The TO filed a grievance with ATD and I was told to immediately suspend any therapy dog visits. Someone from their grievance committee called me and told me I had to follow the rules, no exceptions. They believe they know what's best for my dog, a dog they've never met. Wrong! She then said if I continued to break that rule, I could be reprimanded, suspended or terminated! Reprimanded!!! I haven't been reprimanded since I was a child! And you’re reprimanding me when I'm volunteering! That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard! They apparently have never heard of the saying "there's an exception to every rule" or if they have, they believe it doesn't apply to their rules. I cannot belong to an organization that values their stupid rules (and then threatens me with punishment if I don't comply) over the well-being of my dog. I resigned.
