Absolutely horrendous people. Caught the animal controll officer in a lie under oath lying to the prosecuting attorney. Also the court is a joke watched the judge issue a ticket to an elder lady for feeding stray cats then turns around and gives a lady a ticket for animal abuse for leaving her dog in the car for 15 min when temperatures read 78 degrees with the windows down and water. This court will do whatever it can just to get your money regardless of crime committed or what the law says. The city won't do anything about all the strays but wants to hinder the public for taking care of them. Joplin is a joke can't wait to sell our house and move.
“The Animal Control Division of the Joplin Health Department is committed to maintaining the safety of residents and a quality standard of care for the pets of our city.” This is a quote I pulled from the City of Joplin website about the animal control department. Best joke I’ve heard all year. Today by my job, a cat got hit by a car and broke its hips. The cat then moved into a fenced in field across from our shop. I call animal control at 11:56 a.m. and tell the lady on the phone what happened. She tells me “yeah can you grab a box, go into the field and put the cat in the box. Our guys won’t want to waste time searching for it.” I was appalled because one, I thought that’s what animal control is literally funded to do, and two what if I was to do that and the cat had rabies or something. Great advice coming from the health department when part of their commitment is “maintaining the safety of residents” When the animal control official finally got to me over an hour later, after flying past me once on the road, I tell him “the cat got hit and moved into the field, I walked over towards it and he moved further in” before pointing northwest towards where I saw the cat move to. He replies “Oh so it’s moving it’s fine.” What is the actual purpose of animal control if they don’t follow all commitments set forth to them?
Whoever the lady is that's answering the phone, please teach her how to not be so rude. Everyone in the room could hear her yelling at me. I just called to help an animal. Man, I'll never call here again for anything!
I have called animal control on 3 separate occasions and never received any help. Twice I've seen dogs running loose near my home and called for animal control to come pick them up (our 3 dogs prevented me from picking them up myself), only to be told that since it was a government holiday they would not send anyone out unless the animal was known to be sick or vicious. So I'm just supposed to let this dog wander to get lost or hit by a car? The 1 time I did call and they were actually working, I waited 45 minutes trying to befriend a nervous dog before the dog led me back to its house. I never saw animal control and had to call them to say I handled it myself. Extremely unhelpful and unpredictable.
In the year 2022 you would think that you could trap a wild animal and MOVE it to a place that it would not be a problem...but with skunks, as well as bears apparently, you just trap and kill. Disgusting! If I wanted it dead I could shoot it myself..I wanted the animal trapped so it could be moved and live its life. Do better!!
This little guy lay outside our fence over an hour. Busy road...I took him something to eat, called the animal control...made sure they don't kill them...and had them come and pick him up. He was freezing cold. They got him. Found out they will take him to the animal shelter where they will keep him for 7 days for the owner to claim him, and if they don't, they they will put him up for adoption. I am so glad he will have a warm place to sleep tonight.
