Worst experience with an “adoption” ever! They do not care about those animals, they sell them. When I got home 3 hours later and was looking over the cat i noticed she was severely matted. The shelter worker said she was “fluffy” the cat was sooo dirty. She had poop stuck to her tail/butt and who knows what it was on her legs (black matting). Her nose was running, face dirty. Nails so long they are getting stuck in the carpet and she keeps getting stuck on blankets and sheets. I called a groomer over, she disclosed the cat as flea droppings, most likely an upper respiratory infection and possibly ear mites. She couldn’t finish shaving the cat because the cat was to worked and loosing her breath. So now I have a half shaved poopy sick cat until the vet can get her in. I called golden paw up and asked them why would they let an animal go home in this condition. She answered they are short staffed, the answer to everything. I said well you knew I was coming for a week. I could have waited until the cat is healthy and at least clean. She responded you weren’t the only one to pick up a cat. Like that was answer! It’s an excuse this place is a money maker, I feel like the are in cahoots with breeders. How can a rescue shelter only have high end pets??? They are preying on people who may not be able to obtain the pet other wise. Something is not right with this place. The are the only pics i have of the first day. And the big hump is not fat it’s pelts inches high of fur. The cat is tiny underneath.

We couldn’t be happier!! My wife and I drove from Tulsa on Saturday to see “Izzy Belle”! She is such a sweet addition to our home. She has adjusted to our home very quickly, and us to her! Thank you “Golden Paw” for all you do for all animals! Izzy is truly a blessing from God!!

Golden Paw is great for rescues and some cheaper grooming. However, i will never return my animals for an overnight stay again unless it's an absolutely emergency and there's not other options. I rather pay the vet to board them. If it's a thing. We dropped off our animals. Brought food in bags as requested. Sent them off and left for a couple days. Returned to collars and leashes completely chewed up except for one. Was told they must have taken a collar off one of them and then laid it over the door? and then my dog ate it. My dog doesn't eat leashes and collars. They didn't offer to comp any of the boarding (wasn't looking for much, maybe the cost of the collar?). Wasn't a huge deal (stuff happens right?). Ran into someone that works there and they told us a different story. That a dog happened to get out and ate a bunch of leashes and collars. Which is true? Why are the stories so drastically different? Additionally we sent them with bags of food as requested. We thought they had eaten all of it. They hadn't. The bags were 95% full still. What did they eat? Additionally there were mouse droppings in the bag of food and clear nibble marks from a mouse that had gotten into it. I don't know. I just don't have as much trust for this business that I once did after this. The lady that works the front that's a bit older didn't seem to have a clue as to what was going on or happening. Can never figure out their phone lines, and doesn't call to let people know when animals are done with grooming. We just get a random message that they close at 5:xx and that they've been waiting. Okay... i will never return for boarding again as mentioned unless it's an emergency. I do not trust the boarding process. I will continue to take my business to a competitor in Joplin that has a better proven track record of boarding and animal management. Again, the rescue portion of Golden Paw is amazing and they do very valuable work in the community and for animals. It's just their boarding I don't trust anymore. I would give them more than two stars, but the fact that I feel like I wasn't told the truth, and that really no attempt to reimburse us for a collar and leash is upsetting.

To be honest, we were in shock. The facility is a mess. The walkways are dangerous. The animals looked to be in bad shape (not all of them). I know that's a tough job keeping up with animals, but I hated watching them walk through their own poop. Hoses, ramps, tree limbs in the way. Some dogs were matted, and some had eye infections. I know they can do better.

We reached out to Golden Paw regarding a cat that was adopted through them and was promised a call back but never heard anything back at all. Total lack of care and concern on their part. My in laws are looking to adopt two cats and were considering this rescue but we will be recommending they go elsewhere instead.

We adopted an older dog 1 year ago. She had been there a couple months but per my vet she is healthy. The workers take great care of the animals in their care. They can only do as good as they can with the resources they have. We donate wet and dry dog and cat food and cat litter to try and help. I’d adopt from here again!
