Description The Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA (CASPCA) is a non-profit animal welfare organization whose goal is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for the lost, abandoned and homeless animals of the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County and to place those animals in loving homes. In addition, we provide medical care to our animals in residence and low-cost veterinary services to pet owners.

My husband and I have adopted two fun and loving cats from here. All of the staff were extremely knowledgeable and gave us all of the background information needed. We are so happy that we could give these two fur babies their forever home with us. We have had Achilles since he was 6 months old - used the safe room technique and became best buds with our dog (mini golden doodle). They love to play with each other and often cuddle! We just adopted Aegon on Friday and are currently using the safe room technique again. Aegon has been introduced to our dog and they get along great, Aegon is also playing with Achilles. To anyone looking to adopt I highly recommend using the safe room technique - it truly helps the fur babies acclimate to their forever home. Amazing workers at this facility, you can tell they love what they do. 10/10 would recommend.

Horrible and cruel. This place CALLED ME about adopting a rare breed dog like we recently lost. Knowing their policy I called every day for over a week to ask if he had been neutered yet. Yesterday, the answer was no he had not and they weren’t sure when it would happen. I called today and he had been adopted right out from under me. Apparently he was neutered after I called and placed for adoption the next morning. Had I known, I would have been there when the doors opened. I had an approved application on the dog and THEY CALLED ME to see if I wanted him so I made all the necessary preparations to get him as soon as he was available. And then they gave him to somebody else. I wasn’t even asking them to hold him or go against their policies. What a bunch of cruel BS. I lost my soul dog and was finally ready for another one and they take it away from me too. I’m absolutely heartbroken. Shame on you guys for doing this to people.

I just finished a 12 week foster of 4 new born kittens and their Mama. What a wonderful experience. The foster team was so supportive and helped make the process easy and fun. Im part of the CASPCA family now.❤️

Staff was extremely nice.. animals seem well cared for but policies are incredibly stupid and time consuming. The fact they operate COMPLETELY on a first come first serve basis is stupid. Years ago this place did home checks and ensured they went to the right home. Now they just seem like money tickets for this place to make money off of. Animals go out the doors to random people who can lie on their adoption application and they don’t even follow up on what you said it seems like. Extremely unfair adoption policy. Multiple people showed up for the same pet cause all were approved and the dog went to the first “contestant” it seems. Animals should go to the best fit for them, not the first person who shows up. Weird to me but whatever

We adopted this sweet girl about a month ago. She had a terrible start to life but is absolutely amazing and had made herself right at home with my daughter who has special needs and my daughters emotional support dog. The staff was so attentive and did absolutely amazing with her rehabilitation.
