Description Old Dominion Animal Hospital is a private, locally-owned veterinary clinic in Charlottesville, Virginia, not part of a national veterinary corporation. We offer Wellness Care, Medical & Diagnostics, Surgery, Dentistry, Senior & Hospice Care, and Emergency Veterinary Services. Our animal hospital was founded by Dr. Charles Wood in 1982 and now his son, Dr. Garrett Wood, and daughter, Meredith West have taken over the veterinary practice! Our staff have been with Old Dominion for years and are like real family too! That is how we want you to feel when you come in – just like family.
We are a military family transitioning overseas and navigating the processes that are required in getting our furry feline family member ready to go. She is a tricky little critter who isn't a huge fan of people she doesn't know. I've now had 3 different appointments with Dr. Manley and can't give enough praise with how she has worked with us in making sure things go smoothly. She's gone above and beyond to make our anxious cat comfortable enough to even be examined, as the last 2 vets at previous duty stations were unable to. I highly recommend Old Dominion and the services of Dr. Manley, in particular.
Dr. Kramer and Dr. Jagger took such good care of my dog Sophie and Dr. Kramer was so kind and gentle when it was time to say goodbye to my old girl. They are now taking great care of my new puppy and I feel very fortunate to have them to keep her healthy. The entire staff is wonderful to work with, and they are highly recommended by me.
I arrange quite a few visits to Old Dominion AH on behalf of those our nonprofit is assisting. Old Dominion has always been very helpful, works in sick or injured dogs and cats quickly, and is understanding and helpful in finding the resources to assist those in need. The overwhelming majority of our clients have given positive feedback about their experience. Old Dominion has become our primary source for clients in the Charlottesville-Albemarle area, and to some extent for some of the surrounding counties.
Basically, I adore Old Dominion Animal Hospital. My family made the switch more than 10 years ago and has now brought three dogs to them. They've seen us through well visits, sick visits, and everything in between. I first made the switch after my previous vet resorted to muzzling my dog rather can taking the time to gain her trust. I understand that this is needed at times, but the vet I saw at Old Dominion didn't need to opt for the muzzle- she simply took a few moments to hang out and let my dog settle and get acclimated to the space and to her. It made for a much less anxiety inducing experience for all of us. When it was finally time to say goodbye, my ODH vet came to our house to euthanize my dog, free of charge. The experience was so calm and positive - it was the best possible experience for a tough goodbye to a best friend. My most recent puppy LOVES the vet's office. He's been all tail wags and kisses for the staff. The team is also organized and down to earth. Highly recommend!
I have been taking my dogs to ODAH in Crozet for the past 4+ years and have always been impressed with the knowledge of the doctors and the friendliness of the staff. Dr. Allison Kramer has been our primary vet, and has provided excellent care for our furry friends!
Our cat is a sweet angel at home, and a terror at the vets. However, we just finished her yearly appointment, and are SO impressed. Dr. Donna Manley and Shay H (Vetrinary Assistant) are cat-whisperering miracle workers. They recommended a sedation plan before the visit, so Chia was alert but relaxed during the transport and exam. They also had the brilliant idea to simply remove the lid of her cat carriers so she could stay in her safe space during the exam, rather than try to wrestle her out. I've seen our cat become reactive (and unfortunately) lunge at other vets; but, she was completely okay with getting her shot and physical evaluation from Dr. Manley. She didn't even hiss when the vet palpated her tummy and looked at her teeth. For the first time, I can say that no one involved with her vet visit was traumatized (including her). We are so grateful, and highly recommended Dr. Manley and Shay :)
