Description KHS is not an animal shelter or pet rescue. KHS is a non-sheltering animal welfare agency that offers services and programs for pet owners and educators, volunteer opportunities for individuals and corporate partners. We also advocate for animals and participate in the legislative process to promote protection of animals. KHS is a regional non-profit serving all of southwest Michigan. While we do not have animals for adoption, we can help potential adopters find a rescue or shelter in the area.

Very affordable prices and friendly staff. I would recommend this place to anyone with a pet. Got my dog spayed and three days later looked like she had an infection I called them right away and they said send pictures so they can evaluate it. They prescribed her antibiotics right away and reassured me that my dog would be fine and call back if I had further worries. She's all well and healed now.
Mr Bear needed his yearly check up. Being in SS my budget has gotten tight. I was impressed with the atmosphere, the personnel and the services provided. Mr Bear and I felt part of the team in setting up treatment plans and deciding how his needs could best be met.
Calling and getting an answer from a person is very hard, on top of that one of the Dr.s was very rude to me when approaching me about an issue, she was interrupting me and blaming me for not trying to contact this place when I had left a voicemail and then an email regarding me cats medicine just to receive a frustrating phone call where i was blamed on not trying to communicate. The service in person is very good, however over the phone is not.
Recently a very dear friend of mine had his cat spayed there. My wife, who works for him happened to schedule for him and drop off our precious shop mascot for her spay. Prior to this I had nothing but good things to say about the place and their staff. We had our own cats spayed and neutered there and everyone was friendly and kind when we dealt with them. This brings me to my point. As I said, my wife dropped off the cat. When she dropped off the cat people looked at her like she was terrible because the cat is Dyed pink! She is dyed pink because she is completely white and 100 percent deaf. So last winter the salon decided to dye her so she'd be visible in the winter snow if she gets outside like she sometimes likes to do. She is a grooming salon mascot and everyone in the area loves her and her color. Vegan pet friendly dye was used. The same dye that's used on clients animals. She wasn't harmed at all and enjoyed her coloring. I'm upset because the staff later called my wife because she was the contact person and they degraded her for declining an e-collar at check in. My wife politely declined because they already had one ready for her. When my wife declined, she was spoken to very rudely with an attitude by whomever the woman that talked to her when she declined. Next is what makes me the most angry. When the shop owner, my dear friend went to pick up the cat he was lectured on how terrible it was of him to have dyed the cat. He was also lectured about his cat carrier as well. The very same cat carrier that many people use and even others waiting in the lobby were using as well. This is unacceptable, it's not like Barbie is a toy cat or an accessory, she was dyed for her own safety! Not to show off. She lives in a salon on a very busy road. All of the neighbors know to watch for her if she escapes, because she did once. That is when the decision was made to dye her. She ran straight into South Riverview traffic! She did this because she is completely deaf and is afraid of nothing! Now, I don't know why they treated my friend this way. I don't know if they made the assumption that he dyed her like that so she'd be an accessory and for attention. I assure you, that's not the case with Barbie. Everyone at the salon is a co-owner of her. They all takes turns bringing her home with them and letting her live the best cat life ever playing with everyone's pets and getting all the snuggles, attention and play time. She is very well loved and cared for. Shame on the Humane Society for assuming that she was not treated well because she was colored.
I went there recently for the food bank. They were very nice and helpful. I received 2 large bags of cat food and 1 large bag of litter. When they were located on westnedge, I had all my cats spayed and neutered. They actually let me work inside the building to pay for the spaying and neutering. How awesome is that ! They rely on donations, so help an animal today and donate dog food, cat food, litter, treats and other items, which they can tell you further details about. I'm sure they take money donations also, which will help with other expenses. It's nice to have a place nearby to help our pets out when we can't.
They offer low cost or free spay and neuter for cats and dogs. They also have a pet food bank for those in need. They do not house any animals here. No adoptions on site.
