Description Lone Star Sanctuary for Animals is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, no-kill, animal welfare organization. Our shelter does not receive any federal, state or county funding and no funding from the Humane Society of the United States or ASPCA. We rely solely on donations, grants, bequests and fundraising events to further our mission of Saving and Changing Lives. As a no-kill facility, the pets of Lone Star Sanctuary for Animals remain in our care until they find their Forever Home. EIN 75-2764717
The animals are well cared for and the staff are the most caring and compassionate people. I'm so grateful for all the work they do; and hopefully, these little guys will find a forever home soon.
Every single time I have spoken with someone from this organization, they have been rude, short, and snippy. Also, is it a thing now where we can’t say goodbye at the end of a phone call? Is it proper etiquette to just hang up on people now? It seems to be getting more and more common to deal with the “ high and mighty” when speaking with rescues. But everyone wants to preach adopt, don’t shop. No thanks. I give two stars because I at least appreciate people that have it in their hearts to save pets. But perhaps they should learn to talk to people as well.
We did not end up adopting from this facility, but I was very impressed with the layout and cleanliness. Staff was knowledgeable about almost every animal, everyone was healthy and current on vaccinations, and cleanliness was absolutely outstanding. Thorough adoption applications and a 24hr hold on animals to make sure the adopter is committed. Staff is friendly and helpful. Definitely somewhere we will look again when we are ready for another family pet!
My husband & I were looking to adopt one of the cats here. We visited over the weekend and immediately knew he was the one. We were asked to get the documents (we did so within a day!). Despite calling in and checking in on a Sunday when we go there on a Monday they say he's been adopted already. Now, he wasn't ready for adoption when we visited meaning he could not be adopted as yet (and so was not advertised either). I'm not sure what to draw out of this situation but definitely not acceptable. And very disappointed!
I adopted my dog from Lone Star a few months ago, and he's been the perfect addition to our family. I especially appreciate how careful the Lone Star staff is to make sure their animals go to the right homes. It was not "easy" to adopt, but this was a huge decision! I only wish they had a bigger staff and a quieter reception area.
We drove all the way there and found a dog that my girlfriend fell in love with. Filled out the application and waited. She was so excited to bring this dog home. There was no reason to be rejected other than we do not live in the midland/Odessa area. We could purchase a dog in that area with no questions asked but to adopt they do not allow a dog that deserves a good home a chance. This will also be shared on Facebook to reassure that people understand how this show operates. More worthy sanctuary out there.
