Please, if you are looking to adopt check their website!! So many animals need homes. Helpful and caring workers assisted me with bringing home this guy!! He kept us company during our time of isolation during COVID ♥️

The shelter is tucked away off a country road. It's clean and cheerful, with the adoptable cats across from the office in nice, newer cabitats. Lorena was great helping me and referred me to TJ to help retrieve two cats previously adopted from our rescue. He was in a word, fabulous. The shelter staff couldn't be more accommodating and friendly. There is a sincere love for the animals that I forgot that this is a county shelter. Cleocatra and Dinkins are shown here. Abandoned at a construction site in a taped-up box, they were adopted 8 years ago. Fortunately, the person who discovered them took them to the right place. Thank you, Hernando County Animal Shelter.

It's sad that some people associated with this place have decided to publicly shame someone for having to surrender a dog. Doing this in a public forum whilst posting a picture of this person. Allowing a barrage of comments that are demeaning and down right disgusting. Please do better as this is supposed to be a means of doing what's right. That person could've done many things the wrong way that could've resulted in a much worse situation for that animal. Something needs to be done about this because making people feel uncomfortable coming here, shouldn't be a thing from the people who work there. I've attached just a couple of screenshots of these trashy things they are allowing be said.

Adopted our 1st dog here and now getting our 2nd also. They are a great place! People are awesome, they make the process so quick and easy. We've been to other places that make it so difficult to adopt its almost like they don't want to get the dogs into a home. The dogs all seem so happy and friendly here! Really can't say enough good things about this shelter.

This small animal shelter is clean and the animals are well taken care of. Adoption fees are more reasonable then some of the other places I've been, but unfortunately they are full up with pit bulls and pit mixes. Small dogs already have holds on them, so it's nearly impossible to adopt a small dog. I appreciate it's rural location so less likely complaints about dog barking. I've been there quite a few times and everytime I go they have people taking the dogs for walks to get them out of their kennels while they clean them.
