My fiancée and I adopted two kittens from AWLA (formerly known as Benny & Ranger, now Roasty & Toasty!). Our experience couldn't have been any better. I went on a Thursday afternoon and fell in love with them, after many visits where the cats I was interested in had already been claimed. Anthony at the front desk was super helpful in explaining the hold process while I waited for my fiancée to get there. The facilities and their kennel (which was huge! They were very happen) was so clean that I even came back the following week and sat with them on the floor of their kennel for an hour! All of the volunteers and staff were very welcoming, but Anthony's professionalism, efficiency and organization was notable. $300 for two friendly and healthy kittens that came home neutered was also great value. Adopt don't shop!

I'm very glad that I contacted this shelter. My BF found the kitten in the parking lot of our apartment complex. I called them the same day and they found a foster for the kitten very quickly. The next day I drove to the shelter. They were very nice and friendly. I'm sure the kitten will get the best care there. Thank you for all the work that you are doing for the little ones.

AWLA is a phenomenal organization that helped us every step of the way. They recommended lifestyle, diet, toys & vets in the area to help us get started with our new kittens. The kittens are a bonded pair & it has been life changing having these little furballs come home with us. If you are thinking of adopting, go with two bonded animals if able! They keep each other entertained. Thanks to everyone here for taking care of Benny & Ranger & sending them home with us :)

Found Poppy here after a few days of cat windowshopping from Mt. Purrnon in Alexandria to the Fairfax petsmart and back. I've had a senior cat before but a kitten was a new experience. They provided free food and veterinary recommendations, and her bowl collar has finally come off today. The start of something big!

I came in 20 minutes before closing and they still choose to help me and allow me to have time with the dog I was trying to adopt . They were so nice and patient . Making sure I knew all the information and had everything I needed. When I adopt again I will definitely be coming back here. I know there’s some bad reviews about attitude etc. and I was concerned about that but don’t let that stop you from going because they are truly amazing .

We adopted our new furrbaby and he is so sweet and at home already. He is the perfect fit for our family. The process was so easy and the staff was so great at giving advice and supplying all medical knowledge and resource numbers.
