Adopted a cat from here, and the staff was super nice, friendly, and answered all my questions! Love what they do to help animals without a home and highly recommend going here to pick up a new family member! Pictures of our new family member, Binx!
Sad experience here today. This place has lost all concept of what a shelter’s mission should be… to get animals into loving homes. My partner and I are new to the area, just moved into a new home and have decided we are ready for a kitten. Went into the shelter to see a few kittens, to which we were prompted to fill out an application. Within the application I noted that we let our 6 year old cat outside. Now by outside, I mean that she sits on the porch with us in the evenings and mornings because she enjoys rolling on the concrete. I would say she spends 5% of her time outside with us, which my vet has approved of. I was approached and told that we were banned from ever adopting there because our cat goes outside. Are you kidding me?? No further questions or clarifications asked. You can see in the pictures attached, that our cat has a pretty good life and we are the definition of a good home for an animal. I completely understand you need to be picky with homes that animals go to, however the lack of detail in their questioning is leading to good homes being turned away rather than bad ones. It breaks my heart that this place jeopardizing a shelter animals ability to get into a loving home. Negligence - Heartbroken to say the least. I am an advocate for animal adoption and I’m baffled by this places lack of screening and care to get these animals into loving homes.
We adopted a cat from here (previously Houdini, now known as Peaches) and absolutely loved all of the staff we spoke with. They made every step of the process as easy as possible and answered every question we had. The cat area was ABSOLUTELY SPOTLESS clean and didn't have your typical "shelter" smell either. All of the cats we saw were well groomed and cared for. The introduction room they took us to with our girl was spacious and clean with a nice cat tree and several toys so we could engage with Peaches. We will be returning for all of our additions to our family❤️ 4 months later, our girl is doing so good. She has adjusted so well to her new home, and finally realizes she's home to stay! Thank you Humane Society for making our family whole❤️
We adopted a beautiful puppy from here 2 weeks ago. The process was very easy. All of our questions were answered thoroughly and without ridicule. Although puppy parenting comes with its challenges, he has settled into our home well and we adore him. He has helped bring light back into our lives after the loss of our 13 year old retriever/lab. He is an excellent companion for our 8 year old shepherd/lab!
The smell was kind of overwhelming, but I would imagine most places like that would be. There was a really nice lady there that talked to us and showed us a puppy that just arrived. Other then that when we were looking at animals no one asked if we had any questions, we just walked around by ourselves. The only other thing they said was don't stick your fingers in the cage then walked off. We just went there to donate boxes of items. They all seemed kind of occupied.
A few months ago I got a cat from the society and I have honesty never been the same. It only took my cats 4 days to start falling for each other and now they are inseparable. She won’t sleep without me or my other cat and is always the sweetest. She crawled all over me when I first got her and I melted right there, I am so happy I found her :)
