Why don’t we have the option of zero stars? The Memphis Animal Shelter is of no help at all. I used to defend MAS when they were criticized on the local news or by the public. It has to be a hard job. But they aren’t even trying. MAS doesn’t even answer their own phone. The police department answers. I called about a dog that showed up on my property. The response was a text listing all the ways that I could solve the issue. I don’t work for MAS. I posted about the dog with no response. I checked lost and found sites. I’ve asked people I know to take him. The dog won’t let us approach him. I already have two dogs and can’t afford another one. Is there only one person working for MAS? I called again days later and still no one has picked up the dog. This is why animals are in such bad condition when they end up at the shelter and nothing much can be done for them. They are out so long they get hurt or they get sick. This is why pets are often harmed by homeless animals because the animals are hungry, sick or hurt after being left out so long. Sadly, the same thing happened about a year ago. I called MAS about a dog that was roaming the neighborhood. He growled and snapped at me so I didn’t approach him again. Days and days and no MAS. Thankfully, a neighbor gave him a home. MAS did nothing and they aren’t doing anything about this dog either.

We would like to personally thank, Mary Claire Borys and Ivan Anderson, for all their help and assistance and compassion in bringing Treasure, (MAS-A-38505) to our attention and allowing us to rescue her. Although this was not our initial plan, it was the Lord’s will that she leave with us. May the Lord bless you for all you do for these Angels. 🐾❤️🐾🙏🐾

I went to MAS to adopt a female kitten that I saw on their website and reminded me of a prior cat I owned. I went and saw the kitten but seeing that there was a brother I couldn't separate family. So I adopted both for the price of one. I couldn't take the kittens with me that day because they were on STRAY HOLD and needed to be fixed. On Friday afternoon I went to pick them up and was told that the girl was a boy! My only and most important requirement to adopt was shattered at that moment because I wanted to adopt a girl for one of my bully cats that only respects female kittens. Now I have 2 more boys and I hope it works out or I just added another problem with a house of 9 cats! The staff was friendly and explained their process to me. Overall, it was fairly smooth except for that wrongly identified sex of the kitten! What are the chances that they wouldn't get that right? If they had said both are girls it would have been perfect. However, the kittens are an absolute joy and I will need to be extremely careful introducing them to my bully cat!

My dog in which I adored was hit by a car in a hit and run accident and passed away. I had never been in that situation before and as I watched everything, I was in complete panic and shock. I filed a police report and simply wanted someone to come get my dog’s remains. MPD ensured me MAS would come for my pet. I waited and waited for hours by my pet’s side, and consistently called MPD dispatch since MAS doesn’t have any contact information. Prior to my dog being deceased for several hours, a dispatcher finally told me MAS had no plans to show up until Monday for his remains. My pet was pronounced deceased Saturday. In the mean time what was I suppose to do with his body until Monday?? I was told they had an emergency after hour service for instances as mine, however no. I was highly disappointed and grieving my loss tremendously. I felt no sense of urgency nor support from MAS nor MPD. I handled my deceased dog myself, and took him to receive a cremation myself. I expected more from MAS, as I cared for my pet ALOT and they gave me the impression his life didn’t matter. 0/10 will never look at MAS the same and they shouldn’t even be in business! No one has dared to even follow up with me or anything as it’s been a whole week later.. Rest well my sweet boy Tobi 03/14/21-07/27/24

Our experience with MAS was very overwhelmingly positive. Every member of the MAS staff we encountered — from the cheerful ladies working the reception desk to the kennel technicians — was so kind, helpful and caring and caring during the adoption process of our Grace Ann. We adopted Grace Ann, our lovely Siamese girl, over the recent Memorial Day weekend. Grace Ann was sadly traumatized and confused having lost her person and her home in a dramatic manner. Understandably, she was not real friendly at the shelter. Having once been owned by a Siamese cat, I knew with enough love and time, Grace Ann would settle down. Even though Grace Ann’s adoption was final, she had to remain at MAS until she could be spayed — about another three days. Knowing I already fell in love with her and considered her part of my family, the staff said I could visit Grace Ann as much as I wanted — which I did. I was always greeted with a smile and no one was ever too busy to lead me to Grace Ann. Finally, the day after Memorial Day, we got to bring our girl home. Almost five months later, Grace Ann has developed a kitty persona full of love, nuttiness, bossiness and sweetness. Thank you, MAS, for helping us meet and adopt Grace Ann.
