Denied!! My husband and I have owned several cats over many years. Back in July, we lost our senior cat (18 years old), Tiger. We finally decided it was time to get another. We had a brief conversation with the foster caregiver and played with the kitten. We went ahead and filled out the application. We were told they would contact our vet on Monday. Before that happened, we got an email on Sunday saying that our application had been denied. The reason for the denial is because we let our current cat (9 years old), Sassy, to go outside and it wouldn't be fair to continue to let her outside, but not let the new one go outside. This rescue has a rule that the cats approved cannot go outside. This was casually mentioned in conversation, to which I had clarified that we only let her on the patio. However, I failed to mention that it is fully enclosed, with short walls and screens. This is no different than being inside with the windows open. I don't know if that makes a difference to them. Our cats have always be spoiled. We don't have kids and I'm almost always home. I only go into the office two days a week. We have never abandoned our cats. We moved over 500 miles and brought both of our cats with us. We had two cats and there are several cat beds throughout our large home, one is literally on my desk in my home office, because one cat always wants to be with me. We have a cat tower in our bedroom because it gets the best evening sun. We have another in the guest bedroom because that one gets the best mid-day sun. They have so many toys and we play with them daily. They are our babies. Sassy sleeps in our bed, right between our heads. Before losing Tiger, he slept at our feet. Instead of asking me more about this, asking more about us in general or contacting my vet to prove that we are good cat parents, our application was just straight up denied. All of this is irrelevant anyway, as something felt off about adopting from this rescue. After we left, we found another agency that will better suit our needs and understands the necessary enrichment that a cat needs to live a happy and healthy life. We were planning on contacting Memphis Pets Alive to withdrawal our application, but the denied us before I got to it.
I adopted a two month old kitten that was much easier than I expected after speaking with your organization. Fixed, shots, litter trained and even nails gently clipped. As a disabled person I found it impossible to deal with your organization. Luckily I found an organization that cares about their animals and the adopters. And I didn’t even have to give blood
If you are looking to adopt I'd look elsewhere, these folks aren't in a hurry to get animals in a home....and when they do finally contact you, they want a blood sample and a mouth swab before you are even considered...
