Brookhaven Animal Hospital wants to bury my review. This is the worst veterinary hospital. They are all about money. I received NO APOLOGY FOR SYDNEY’S DEATH WHICH THEY CAUSED. She did not have to die. They left her alone. This was my beautiful Sydney. She was 13 years and 3 months. She was a patient of Brookhaven Animal Hospital. She had surgery for bladder stones at Blue Pearl in Midtown at Brookhaven Animal Hospital’s recommendation. After almost a week post surgery, I asked Brookhaven Animal Hospital if she was good to board plus I cleared it with Blue Pearl’s on staff veterinarian in person. All was cleared. I picked up my Sydney on Sunday, dropped her off and called to check up later (no later than two hours) asking for an update. The receptionist said she would let Dr. Zach Vrono know to call me. I never received a call from Dr. Vrono or anyone in the office. I called the next day at 8:10 a.m. was told the doctor would call me as soon as he came in probably around 9:00. I received a call from Dr. Vrono after 11:00 saying he was so sorry no one was available to take care of Sydney. He said I should have known that they had no one to take care of any dogs on weekends. Look at their website. They guarantee additional care on “medical boarding”. I live close by. All I needed was a call to either pick her up and take her back to Blue Pearl or take her home. Or, we have no staff on the weekends, leave her at Blue Pearl. Bring her tomorrow! She was fine when I left her with Dr. Vrono. She needlessly died because of Brookhaven Animal Hospital! She was medically cleared when I brought her to Brookhaven Animal Hospital. After the one day with Brookhaven Animal Hospital, she had a fever and pneumonia. She died less than 24 hours later. I will be filing a lawsuit. This practice only cares about money. I was told by the managing practice officer who has no prior experience with animals that I only cared about the money so I brought her to Brookhaven Animal Hospital to save money. I actually paid almost paid almost $10,000 for her care at Blue Pearl. I can document everything. This is a garbage practice who goes into blame mode when they messed up. I received no apology but defense mode and blame someone else. They are a horrible, horrific and hateful practice. I received no apologies but blame. Brookhaven Animal Hospital knew the issues with Sydney. They made the recommendation for Blue Pearl. Supposedly, Brookhaven Animal Hospital is experienced. Brookhaven Animal Hospital hired a practice manager who has no prior experience with animals. He blamed me. Told me I only brought Sydney for money reasons. Insinuated that I only cared about money. I paid almost $10,000 for her care in this particular surgery. This a practice that is soulless and heartless. They only care about money and paying their huge rent. I have documentation on this. The most tragic issue is my Sydney died under Brookhaven Animal Hospital’s care. A much lesser issue was I never received an apology. I received blame from “upper management”. Upper management believed it was my fault for trusting them even though all was cleared multiple times with their recommendation of the ER. Sometimes being human can ameliorate the long term issue. This is an exceptionally horrible veterinary hospital. They don’t care about the human parents. They just care about the bottom line. The second photo was Sydney when she was a puppy. She passed away needlessly. This vet clinic is the horrible. They take no responsibility. They are so bold that I still get text messages for upcoming medical visits for Sydney’s siblings. This is a very arrogant vet clinic. I liked the staff but most of the veterinarians are arrogant. A degree from a good school is one thing but quality of care as professionals and competent compassionate veterinary clinicians is another. The vets are generally cold and uncaring. It is interesting how they respond to every review but mine!
I can’t express how grateful I am for Brookhaven animal hospital. I have a big cane corso who can be very protective of me, and it’s hard for me to find someone who will assess him when it’s needed. I knew something was wrong with him but of course it’s hard to find someone who will care for him being that he can be so aggressive. But here at Brookhaven animal hospital everyone from the front desk to the helpers in the back to the doctor everyone was so calm and understanding. I was feeling so stressed and overwhelmed just trying to make sure he was okay and feeling better and they did everything could have asked for!!
Dr. Erin Horner and the team at BAH are such kind and conscientious people. Dr. Horner is so great with my dogs, ensuring their good health and comfort. I get great advice without any unnecessary procedures or medications. Highly recommended!
Disorganized, incompetent, unapologetic. We have been a patient at BAH for over 4 years. The care has been average at best, but the staff and systems are terrible. Constant reminders for services not due while other required vaccinations/services remain un-updated inexplicably. Conflicting documentation in bills etc...Today was the last straw. We went in for an updated Bordetella shots so we could board our dog for an upcoming trip. They suggested we update several shots that were not due until July and get an updated exam. We assented. Do you know they did a series of shots and evaluations BUT NOT the Bordetella. We didn't even find out until we brought the dog to be boarded and they noted there was no Bordetella at all on the record- let alone expired. So after all that trauma to our poor dog we had to bring her back again the next day to do the one thing we brought her in for and missed her boarding appointment in the process. BAH's response was literally "huh, our bad". We requested our records and will never be back. I never leave reviews, but they are truly a hot mess and I strongly recommend avoiding.
BE WARNED: this is a low quality vet office. I brought my senior kitty here beginning in 2021. Over the past three years, appointments with Dr. Horner were always rushed, but I looked past it because my cat was mostly okay (for context, when I first brought him to Brookhaven Animal Hospital, he'd already been diagnosed with stage one kidney disease and was on a low-protein diet). In January of this year, I brought him in with a long list of concerns. I shared these concerns when making the appointment, after he was brought into the exam room by the vet tech, and again after Dr. Horner quickly examined him. I brought it up with Dr. Horner because it seemed that she was totally unaware of why I was actually there. Even after reiterating my concerns, she simply ran the usual tests and sent me on my way. When I reviewed the updated report (that the office sent by email), I noticed that my cat had lost TWO pounds. No one seemed remotely concerned about this (or even aware of it), as not a word was said during his visit. I then emailed Dr. Horner, noting the weight loss and stating that my main concerns remained unaddressed. She then invited me to come back in for a comped second exam. During this much lengthier exam (but still 1/2 of the exam my cat receives at his new vet), Dr. Horner stated that the weight loss might be due to stomach cancer. She recommended a $500 ultrasound. Obviously, it's entirely unacceptable to have cancer mentioned ONLY AFTER 1) having to point out the documented weight loss YOURSELF 2) coming in for a SECOND, actually thorough exam. No longer trusting this vet's judgment, I decided to get a second opinion with a highly regarded senior cat specialist. Within our first appointment, the new vet determined that there was absolutely no evidence of stomach cancer and that the weight loss was likely due to his low protein, kidney-friendly diet. After implementing this new vet's plan, I saw an almost immediate change in my cat's weight, energy, AND mobility. Dr. Horner lazily led me to accept my cat's weakness as the typical life of an arthritic elderly cat...meanwhile, the new vet has found easy ways to improve his nutrition and quality of life. Dr. Horner was also happy to quote me $500 for an unnecessary procedure, based on record information that I brought to HER attention. This is a terrible practice -- you can absolutely find better healthcare for your pets!
I’ve been coming here for over 7 years and the vet is great, they just really need to work on the front staff. I’m always on hold every-time I call (minimum 5 minutes) and the line in person is always 2-4 deep. I love the vet, they just need to hire more staff with the overflow.
