I’m appalled! I responded to an “urgent need” post for a dog that had been in the shelter for months that they were really trying to find a home for. I went there and visited with the dog with the intent to take her. During the visit she pooped twice within 30min and I brought it to their attention that she had some minor digestive issues going on. They assured me that I could bring the dog into their in house vet within 10 days if the digestive concern didn’t subside. I ended up having the dog for 2 weeks and she never had a solid stool that whole time. I called the shelter after 6 days and they were very rude to me. I told the lady on the phone that I had been assured I could see the vet. They told me the ONLY option was that day at 2 or the next day at 2…. I cant call off work for my dog and they refused to work with me to get her into the vet, insisting I just go to my regular vet. They told me on the phone that day that she had an ACTIVE ear infection that they neglected to tell me about on adoption day. I asked to speak to a manager and one NEVER called me back. A few more days went by and the dog developed more medical concerns. She was rubbing her butt on ground constantly and had developed some sort of urinary issue. She would be standing there and pee would just leak out. Or laying on the couch or bed and pee would leak out. She then started developing skin allergies and bit her skin off in 3-4 places. I took her to the vet after 13 days of ownership to find out that she had FIVE DIFFERENT medical conditions that needed treatment and over $1,000 in expenses for JUST round 1/day 1 of treatment…. I am a single mother and teacher. I can’t take on that type of responsibility. I called the shelter bc I fully believe they KNEW these issues and just neglected to tell me. They admitted they didn’t tell me about the ear infection. How was she at the shelter for MONTHS and didn’t have skin allergies so badly she bite her skin off? How did she just spontaneously develop bladder issues within 13 days of adoption? She also clearly has ongoing digestive issues. I had her for 13 days and she NEVER had a solid stool…. I took her back to the shelter with the $900 vet invoice and asked if they could take care of some of the things. I didn’t want to surrender her back to the shelter. I wanted them to help me with her medical diagnosis and treatment plan. A volunteer from the shelter said she could possibly help with the medical issues and then I never heard back from her. I’m so disgusted, dismayed, and broken hearted. Not to mention my two small children cried for days. What a nightmare!!

We adopted our latest kitty from the City of Henderson Animal Shelter, and while he's a handful, he is such a great little guy. Renly is doing great, and we think he likes his new home. We've also had excellent experiences here while dropping off donations (they can always use pet supplies, even towels, blankets, toys, etc.) and, even recently, dropping off a lost dog. The facilities are clean and safe from what I've seen, and the animals get tons of love from employees and volunteers. Thanks for providing a necessary service for our city of Henderson!

I Went to adopt a dog that I saw at the shelter social media post. I brought my ex because she wanted to to see the dogs that were there. As I was with this dog I wanted to adopt, I ask my ex to fill out the paperwork for me. As she was filling out the paperwork she filled out her address and they asked if she had a dog that wasn’t spayed or nuetered. She said yes. I went and filled out a different paperwork because the dog was going to live with me and I don’t have a dog. I told the young recptionist and the first thing she says is “That’s sketchy.” Who talks to someone like that? That made me irate and pissed so I decide to just brush it off and continue to fill out the paperwork and the receptionist continues to say, “Are you sure you don’t have a dog at your house because we will send an inspector over to investigate your backyard.” At this point I just lost all motivation in adopting a dog. Who ever that young reception is needs serious training in customer relations. Is this what to expect when adopting a dog, to be investigated randomly for caring for an animal?

My boyfriend and I wanted to adopt a cat in December of 2023 and we decided to go here for that. The process was easy and the workers were friendly and helpful. We ended up choosing this handsome boy, Oden and everything seemed perfect. However, after having him for a while, I took him to the vet and found out he had been suffering from liver failure due to something underlying and he was on his last limb essentially. We had to put him down and it broke my heart as I only had him for two months and he was just 5 years old. Just really sucks, we didnt get a heads up or anything that he had issues. The first day we brought him home we could tell there was something a little off but assumed since he was in a new environment it was stress. Im not blaming the shelter completely as these things do tend to happen unfortunately but if youre thinking of adopting through here just be careful and cautious to avoid heartbreak.

We adopted our dog, Tommy, formerly known as Griswold on 12/22/23. What a great dog! He quickly settled in to our home and routine. So happy we went there to look for a dog. Everyone there were so friendly and helpful. It was a great experience!
