Updated review: One would think that WT would offer after surgery checks by offering stitch/staple removal as part of their vet care. Well, they don’t. Once the animal is adopted, they don’t care anymore. We ended up scheduling an appointment with our vet that did not perform the surgery, but agreed to the after care. We just brought our puppy home from an adoption event. (I fostered, my friend adopted). It was a bit hectic at the event, but we couldn’t be happier with the organization and how they supported us throughout the adoption process!
I can’t say enough positive things about Wolftrap and Dr B. The facility is amazing, staff are so helpful and attentive and Dr. Burton is the absolute best. My dog is my soul dog and feel so fortunate I found an amazing reside and vet! Every time we go in for a check in, Dr B immediately gets down on my pup’s level, recognizes her, gives her pets and loves likes she’s her own. I don’t know how she finds the time to give so many pets attention and exceptional medical care, but somehow she does. This animal hospital and rescue is truly amazing
One would think that if you have to pay a $25 fee to send in an application that the organization would at least have the courtesy of saying something in return. It’s been a few weeks and have not heard back from them after I applied. Perhaps it’s because I live in NJ? I mentioned in my application that I recently adopted 2 other adult dogs, here in NJ, whom are both thriving here at my house. I make sure to socialize them with other dogs, children, adults, and even postal workers regularly! Either way, both dogs have been super quick adapting to their new home and have been a breeze to work with. This got me thinking, we have plenty of room here and could easily handle another dog. One of the dogs is a tripawd and I planned to take a roadtrip with her out to Sterling, VA, to have her fitted for a prosthetic over at Bionic Pets. How sweet would it be to have gotten her a kid sister while out there? Well, I’ve been delaying making an appointment and driving out there in hopes that I’d hear back from this rescue. I have not. I went ahead and gave them 1 bonus star because their site seems well put together. Aside from that, it’s as though I sent money to the ghost of an establishment.
My boyfriend and I adopted a cat very quickly and easily. The application form was painless and we were able to meet our cat the next day, and adopt him the next week. The foster mom, Michelle, was very quick to respond to any questions we had and house-trained our kitty perfectly. We also appreciated that Dr. Amber Burton checked in with us ahead of time, and we got a call to see how he was settling in after a week. You can tell they really care about both the animals and the people adopting them. Highly recommend!
I’m a first time pup parent but the adoption process with WTAR was awesome and set me up for success. The fact that all the animals get placed with foster families first so they can tell you more about your animal’s personality along the way and give you advice on their care made me feel like I was getting good background on my lady. Our foster family had their own dogs at home that helped my puppy learn how to interact with other dogs and understand that outside is the place to potty. Their amount of experience contrasts my amount of zero experience but made me feel like I was being shepherded through the process. They also encouraged me to come visit my pup multiple times before the official adoption day so she was a little more familiar with me before we took her home. WTAR did an awesome job of including as much information as they could about my puppy when they gave me her history/medical history - great records of everything they did for her once she was taken in by WTAR and the shelter before them where she was found. The whole process was informative and easy, they give you a checklist of everything you need to do to complete the adoption and they called to check in on how we’ve been doing a few weeks after her adoption. Also the adopters get invited to a facebook group to connect with fellow adopters. Its a great community of people you get to stay in touch with and ask questions and advice from. Just awesome all around.
I prefer zero stars. This is the first time I've fostered. I understand that the rescue is for an amazing cause but if it makes you unhappy, please find another profession. I fostered a 4 month old pup. I had a couple of people interested in her. They both fell through. I was going out of town and asked the rescue for a temporary foster. I had to find the temporary foster myself as they rescue wasn't very communicative unless I reached out to them. My temporary foster filled out everything and was able to foster for me. She had the pup the day before the event and one of her friends fell in love with the pup. I texted, emailed, everyone letting them know that we had an adopter. They said the adopter would have to get to the event early to put her name on the list, because they "promoted" that the dog was going to be there. My temp foster was first on the list for this pup. The staff told her to be back at the end of the event which was at noon. Around 11am, I get a text from Dr. Burton saying that we needed to be there ASAP and that her staff told my friend to be back by 11. Which is a lie. They were ready to move onto the next person that was interested in her with a "don't care attitude". Upon arrival, they were rude to my friend, Dr. Burton was rude to my friend and her staff. I understand that it can be hectic, that's why you have people foster. It doesn't seem as though they really care where the animals go, they only care to get rid of them. If my friend wasn't able to make it in time, they would've just moved on to the next person to keep it moving. I was in constant communication trying to make sure it all it worked out. It is frustrating to volunteer your time and money for an animal in need only to get treated like a burden. She also had a parasite and she was spayed. Her stitches came out before the adoption event so I took her to the rescue and they replaced it with staples. I asked about follow-up and they said the adopter would have to contact their vet. This puppy was under Dr. Burton's care and now she's not unless I pay $25 to secure a visit plus any additional fees incurred during the appt. Keep in mind that the adoption fee is $525. No, thanks. She will go to someone that legit cares about animals.
