We fostered a dog with the Humane Society in January, 2023. They were very helpful and available when we needed them. We took our foster in for an appointment there and they were quick and professional. When we returned our foster after our time was up, it was hard but they were understanding. They whisked her away and we unloaded all her stuff. They made it as easy as possible. Our foster was adopted within a few days. Success!

Staff was unfriendly to the point where we questioned whether or not they even wanted to let us adopt. When we asked about the possibility of smaller dogs, the answer was cold and almost judgmental that we woukd want someone smaller than the ginormous dogs they were pushing. It was an awful experience. Theyve made lotd of changes in the 12 years since we'd been and I would hesitate to return.

I wasnt happy about how they handled a surrendering dog that nipped by fear. All they thought was... he's dangerous.. and i know that they never evaluated him at all.. they said the person who did this was out of town.. this poor dog was kept in the dark, no outside time.. way over 30 days.. gosh, they were going to put him down.. saying that cant get near him... bull.. sh.. i brought him home.. he's the love of our lifes. The patience was not thete.. he needed understanding... so loving, and smart.. and beautiful..

The buncombe county Animal shelter has came a long ways. From Lee's Creek near Clyde A Erwin high school to now with the New Shelter off of Brevard Rd. Thanks to Bill Mcalvy, Denise Goodson, Nancy Lyle Dr Jill Vargo and many other people working to make this happen .

Please adopt. They want a family like yours. You will never fall out of love with animals and they will never leave you. Their Love is not complicated. Adopt, they need you and you need them.
