Description "Assistance Dogs of the West (ADW) builds successful working partnerships between clients and dogs that empower people and open doors to new opportunities"
I am working on getting a new service dog as mine died earlier this year. I found Assistance Dogs of the West on the DAV website. I filled out the application and gathered the information that they needed. I am so happy about how thorough they are in matching me with my new service dog. Everyone is really nice there, and I am so glad they work so hard to get disabled veterans funded. We get to go and work with the dogs every Wednesday. It can take up to 2 years to get a dog. But these are some of the hardest working people I have ever met. They are very kind also.
I was told because I am terminal "I am not worth the investment " Then I was called a few hours later saying because I the va was funding to get my application in as soon as possible. These people are disgusting. I am going to do everything I can to make sure they never get VA FUNDING AGAIN
I was calling to get some information about a service dog for my 7 year old son who is a type 1 diabetic. They answered the phone and I started explaining why I was calling. I was rudely cut off by the man on the phone, who said someone would have to call me back at a later time cause they had a big conference (so why answer the phone) . He asked me where I was from and I said Florida and he said with an attitude “we’re in New Mexico, we only work with people here” . As a mother going through a hard time trying to help my son the best I can . It’s discouraging when people are rude . I know nothing about this process and just wanted info . Hopefully they learn to be kinder and nicer to people, you never know what someone is going through .
While they provide Wonderful service dogs - I was a volunteer and found it to be very challenging . However - not because of the dogs , who are lovely . Linda who is in charge is Great , but I felt alot of the volunteers and folks who work at their facilities seemed Miserable and very Unfriendly to anyone new coming in to help . Especially a lady named Pam , who was so unhelpful , to the point where I had to cease my involvement . Really they are doing great work , but how about - LIGHTEN UP . smile , enjoy your work Or move on . You are not curing cancer , you are simply providing service animals to those in need .
Everyone was super friendly and very helpful.
Peaceful and loving atmosphere. Awesome staff. Helpful and friendly.
