Staff were very kind. We had rescued a dog while he was wondering the road. They were extremely hopeful that his owners could be found.

This department is useless! I've called over the past months to obtain their service and they have not been able to get their job done! They don't enforce any laws to whom they should! New Mexico definitely needs to work on bettering their law enforcement area! They're just as careless and useless as law enforcement in third world countries!

Adopted Daisy May! She is totally incredible a blind pup! We are so excited and blessed she is now part of our family! Thank you Santa Fe Animal Shelter!

Someone dumped three little dogs on my property. I immediately took them to animal control. I already had 6 dogs at the time, and it was freezing outside. They refused to take them. Said since they were in my possession, they were my dogs now and up to me to rehome them. They lie about being full. They lie about being a no kill shelter.

My dogs got in a fight with a big raccoon in my backyard. Animal Control came asap to dispose of the cook's body.

I can't speak to the individuals who work for this department who are only following orders, but the policies are terrible. Any neighbor with selective hearing and an axe to grind can report your dogs as a nuisance. Meanwhile every other dog in the neighborhood is barking, but those people are her friends or happen to bark when she isn't home. I have been unemployed or underemployed and I am either home or briefly at work. When I am at work my dogs are inside. When I am home they are inside 99% of the time (all they get are pee and poo breaks) or they are out at the dog park with me twice a day every single day. If I even crack a window, or a skunk is in the yard or the UPS truck goes by I know that the neighbor is going to call if she is home, hears my dogs and is in a mood. She is hardly ever home, her dogs are left out, mine can hear them wrestling. She is new to the neighborhood I have lived in for 18 years, the house I bought specifically because the yard & neighborhood were dog friendly, but she reports my indoor dogs as "barking incessantly" morning and evening. Her word against mine. Never mind that having my dogs taken from me would literally destroy me, they are my children, my friends, my everything and that I do EVERYTHING I can to keep it quiet here while kids everywhere are screaming, and construction workers are blasting music and other neighbor's dogs are left out all day or night, and my next door neighbor is talking loudly on the porch within feet of my bedroom or weed whacking at any hour ...and did I mention fireworks and parties and loud barbecues? Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Do you really want to live in a neighborhood where everyone tries to take away each other's enjoyment of our loved ones and our every day lives in our own homes? And these animal control officers and supervisors should understand that many many of the reports they get are malicious and not with good intent... have some empathy! Ask for evidence... and complaints should not be anonymous if you want them to be accurate. Is your job to help or to make things worse by taking animals away from people who actually take care of them in a state where animals are neglected TERRIBLY?
