Wonderful setup for pet adoption. They have all the animal bios on line if you want to plan ahead. I just went in to see if one of them stood out and sure enough there was a shining star and I took her home. Someone had prepaid her adoption fees so it was free (I also paid it forward - as have others. So don't let the adoption fee keep you from visiting. There's a decent chance it'll be free)
After the devastating loss of my 16 year old cat, I went to Foothills and adopted my new love, Sally. She was spayed, microchipped and fully vaccinated. And they are a no kill facility.
My two friends whom were with me when I adopted my dog, were appalled by “the high pressure sales pitch”” by the woman at this shelter. I asked if I paid for the dog, if they would hold him over night, as I wanted my friend’s 10 year old son with us when we brought the dog home. They were adamant that they could not hold him even if I signed the papers and paid in full. They insisted dog would most likely be gone if I waited until the next day. ADOPTER be aware, this shelter spays larger breeds before a dog is three months old. It’s a known fact that this can NEGATIVELY affect their behavior. This shelter needs to be shut down, as they don’t treat their dogs well ( mine came home) and many were commenting on how malnourished he looked. My impression, they don’t feed their dogs enough which can give a dog “food aggressions” . Another behavior that will need to be addressed. There are plenty of other shelters in Maricopa County that don’t run their shelters like a “puppy mill”!!! DO NOT ADOPT an animal from this shelter!!!
I was looking to see if they posted a picture I sent in on my newly kitten I adopted about a month and a half ago from them and was looking through the reviews. I made an appointment and they were so kind and let me go in a room with all the kittens and have me time to pick one out. All the staff was amazing and so nice and gave me all the information plus 3 big size bags of kitten food and 4 cat toys FOR FREE. Not to mention they gave me a coupon for a free visit to the vet. This place was amazing and I love my cat and I plan on going to volunteer because they deserve every bit of it!!!!!
I adopted Montana this Saturday. I love her ❤️ We renamed her ‘Cheba’, per my hubby, it was my nickname growing up. She was at Petco in Scottsdale this Saturday. The woman who helped us was knowledgeable, friendly, and she answered all of our questions about her. The adoption process was informative but quick. I’ve already got her registered and ready for her next vaccine. . It seems this shelter does their part in making sure that they are ready to go to good homes and in good condition. She asked questions of us, such as other pets, family , etc, and I had no problems answering- I know good shelters want to make sure pets go to good homes. Cheba was already fixed and microchipped, and I thought the adoption price was very fair. I went on their website and was very impressed. I would recommend this shelter for adopting a kitten or puppy. Thank you for helping Montana aka Cheba find me!
Adopted my first cat from FAR in 1998, since then 3 more. Donated to and supported Whiskers and Wine for many years. Many thanks for the cat companionship. Glad to endorse this organization.
