My family wanted to get a 2nd dog and visited the New Hanover Humane Society. The shelter had many dogs of all breeds, shapes and sizes available for adoption. Rebecca, a staff member, was extremely helpful in picking the right dog to get along with our cranky older female dog. Rebecca introduced us to the most wonderful dog. He is big and fuzzy and so calm and gentle. He gets along beautifully with our other dog. We love him so much and couldn't imagine a better dog for our family. I highly recommend this shelter to others seeking to add a pet to their lives.

Thank you so much New Hanover Humane Society! My son adopted Hazelnut (formerly Lydia) back in November. She is the absolute most sweetest dog, and she’s definitely one of a kind. She has transitioned well into our home, and we can tell she was well taken care of before she came to us. I definitely recommend New Hanover Humane Society, to anyone who is interested in adopting a pet.

Big Thanks for the Awesome Cats! Hey New Hanover Humane Society Team, Just wanted to drop you a line to say a massive THANK YOU for hooking me up with the coolest cats ever! Adopting Clyde and Miles from you guys when they were little kitties in 2019 has been the highlight of my life. Your crew made the whole process a breeze, and it's clear you care a ton about your furry residents. The vibes at the shelter are top-notch, and it definitely rubbed off on these two rockstars. Clyde and Miles are loving life. Their antics and cuddles are making my days a whole lot brighter. Kudos to you for making sure these furballs find awesome homes! You're not just finding homes for pets, you're making families. Keep rocking those pet matchmaking skills! Thank you so much for what you do! Serious attitude problems with the staff. I have been several times over the past two years and they are nearly always unfriendly (sometimes they don't talk). I'm surprised they get to work with kittens all day and have the rudeness they do. They take one snobby look at you, up and down, and question your validity to adopt. Last time I tried, the dude questioned my age and how I was "too young" (I am an adult student), told me I didn't care enough, and how I would essentially leave the cat to die. No bother about my six previous cats and over 10 current healthy pets, and the fact I'm studying to become a vet. Do better, seriously. Jesus, sometimes you just wanna go see animals to feel better during hard times. At least the animals seem semi-healthy.

We went there to set up a fundraiser for them and came home with a beautiful doggo. The facility is clean and well staffed. The animals in their care were well tended to.

We adopted our kitten from here. The staff and volunteers are wonderful, and you can tell they really care about the animals they have here
