I adopted an older kitty, Dorothy, in April 2020 during the height of the pandemic. They worked with me to find an older, calmer, non-agressive cat friend for my similar cat, Jack. Dorothy is a scaredy cat (hid under the couch for 2 weeks), took her a year to jump on the bed, picking her up is a no-no, etc. Her SPCA foster mom left her phone number so I was able to learn more about Dorothy. Thank goodness! She just needed another cat to show her how to be a cat in her own time. After a month, her and Jack were best friends until he passed in early 2024. So thankful they rescue pets who are shy and work with them. I also fostered some kittens in 2021 for them and they were great to work with. Good ending: I ended up rescuing the mother cat and now her and Dorothy live together. ❤️

I highly recommend the SPCA of Wake County for adopting your new family member! I found my new baby after searching most of the private and public adoption options in the Southern Raleigh area. After years of debating on adding a 3rd cat and positive changes in life circumstances, I adopted my 9 week old kitten here! They were very thorough in the adoption process. The adoption fee is very minimal compared to how much you get with the vet care and vaccinations before being available for adoption. I knew a complete history of my boy from the day he came in to the day I got him. This included behavior history and vet history with test results. They even updated his vaccines that would have been due a few days after I took him home! I was saved a $200+ vet visit for their generosity! I am so grateful for the care of my little stray kitten by SPCA of Wake County prior to him being in his forever home with his two big sisters!

We got a 9-week-old puppy, Dustin from them yesterday and we love him! I appreciated the adoption process too, they asked specific questions about how we would train him and it made me feel good that they screen people that way so the dogs get good homes. He's healthy, sweet, and well mannered, he's not too timid so he was treated right. I love this rescue and I'd highly recommend them.

I went to this shelter twice to meet a 2 yr old dog named Snapple. I vetted a lot of profiles to find a dog I felt would be a possible fit for our family. I found Snapple. I visited Once with and once without an appointment. 1st time The appointment confirmation page said that we would be meeting Snapple that day. I called ahead to confirm, but no one answered the phone. I left a message. However, when I went back the 2nd time with an appointment to meet her, like I was told, I was being asked what my phone number was for her microchip. I asked if we were going to be meeting her first, they said probably not, since she wasn’t in the building. It is a 25 min drive for us, I can’t keep coming back to SPCA to be told I can’t meet this dog. I feel like my time was wasted and Snapple lost her possible family over this. Pretty disappointed. I hope someone will get to eventually get to meet her and give Snapple a happy home.

I would highly recommend the SPCA of Wake County! They are an incredible animal shelter, and I'm especially impressed by the high level of care they provide to their shelter animals. I was specifically looking for a small animal, and they provided great enrichment and cages that were plenty big for the animals. Additionally, the staff/volunteers were beyond kind, and they were loving on the animals while I was there. I adopted Penelope the Guinea Pig, and the adoption specialist asked all the right questions! I really appreciate that they fully vented me. I will be adopting all of my future pets from them!
