I'm disappointed that I have to make this post. But, people need to be aware when adopting from KC Pet Project that their new family member may need expensive medical treatment. KC Pet Project will not take responsibility for any oversight and you will be faced with making the heartbreaking decision of returning the animal to them or covering the vet bill yourself. I adopted a 2 to 3-year-old male, mixed breed 4 months ago. I was told he was an excellent health, he had a complete exam, vaccinations, heartworm check and was spayed. From the moment i had him home I noticed he had fowl smelling breath and his teeth were stained a dark brown. My vet recommened crunchy treats, kibble, and using dog toothpaste to try and help his oral health. After a month it was obvious his breath was not improving and my other dog had started licking his mouth trying to clean him. After taking with the vet again, he recommended a cleaning, done with anesthesia so he could check his teeth. During the exam my new fur baby needed 6 teeth removed because of decay. The bill was over $500. Peanut is a week post dental treatment now. His energy has improved, he is much more playful and his breath no longer smells of decay. The vets office called KC Pet Project because such oversight on their vets exam was inexcusable. KC Pet Project would not confirm or deny if a dental exam was ever done, and also refused to help cover the expense even though they said he was in good.health just 2 months earlier at the time of adoption. Me. Over $500 NKC pet project will take no respossibility for the condition of the dog's mouth. Even though they said they did a complete exam on him. Obviously, no one even looked in his mouth. I have nothing negative to say about the adoption process, however, I do want to issue a warning ⚠️ Beware of the dog's health you adopt, take it to the vet immediately. Unfortunately, if the dog is in poor health, you need to make a decision if you can afford the Vet bills and if not, return the dog, which is a horrible decision for anyone to who loves animals. Shame on KC Pet Project for putting animal lovers in such a position for trying to give an unwanted animal a loving forever home. 💔 😔

Wonderful experience! We lost both of our 13 year old pups in the span of 3 weeks. we chose to adopt so we weren't jumping back, immediately, into the puppy years. Also, we wanted to give a good life to a pup in need. KCCAC is THE place to adopt. they have over 300 dogs that would love a forever home. we adopted a 4-6 year old Alaskan Malamute Husky mix. He was the first dog we met, jumping into our arms as soon as he met us. He is wonderful, gentle, chill, and still playful. I can't imagine ever giving him up. The staff was incredibly helpful, allowing us to interact with 5 dogs before determining that the first boy was the one. The staff was patient and gave us as much time as we needed. KCCAC also cares for all animals in their charge extremely well. Our boy is healthy, up-to-date on immunizations, and well adjusted from play time with other dogs. I have nothing but positive things to say about KCCAC, our experience, and their helpful staff. we are lucky to find our new buddy. Thank you KCCAC!

I have adopted three dogs from KC pet projects Bruce Lilley and senior peppers. Bruce and Lily are pitbull and senior pepper is a Chihuahua. I absolutely adore my three babies. I would not trade them for anything I would absolutely recommend KC pet projects if you want to adopt a animal The staff there are very caring, helpful, and they make sure you understand everything about the pet if it has medicine or special needs I do have to say they are much better than way sideways I will never go to Wayside for me. It’s KC pet projects.

BE PREPARED FOR VET EXPENSES. I am very disappointed to say that I am nearly $500 deep (more to come) on vet expenses due to KCPP’s lack of thorough veterinary care and inspection. No issue with the staff, they were very kind and meeting the cats was awesome! The issue arose when I noticed a preexisting bald spot on my cat (it was there when we met him) was being itched to the point of bleeding. I quickly made him a vet appointment (within 10 days of adoption). My vet found that my cat had pretty severe yeast in his ears - this can come from eradicating mites in the ears. I wasn’t happy about the bill, but maybe he hadn’t shown signs of itching? Today, I had a follow up appt - build up was not gone and my vets noticed that there was NO DOCUMENTATION THAT MY CAT HAD BEEN TESTING FOR FIV OR FELV!!!!! I am aware that KCPP does do this testing at some point but as these diseases are contagious AND LETHAL WHEN UNTREATED. I now have to foot the bill for this test ($70). ADDITIONALLY, he has tape worms! I requested a cat with minimal to no health accommodations and was given a cat with TAPE WORMS, YEAST BUILD UP, BALD SPOT DUE TO PERSISTENT SCRATCHING (from untreated yeast), AND NO INDICATION THAT CONTAGIOUS FIV/FELV HAD BEEN TESTED FOR. I am not one to surrender an animal, clearly KCPP vets overlooked issues in order to get this cat adopted. HOWEVER, if I had brought this cat into a home with other pets - there would be medical and financial consequences. I attempted to call KCPP and was left with the option to leave a voicemail with all my/my pets info. Very disappointed with this whole situation. My cat has been in a cone for 3/4 weeks I’ve had him - we don’t get to play or bond like normal because I have make him healthy first. I adopted from KCPP in order to avoid vet bills from neutering/vaccinating/testing. But I’m still left with HUNDREDS of dollars worth of testing/treatments/medications in order to help this cat. He is super cute though.

Nice pet adoption place! Very nice facility with a coffee shop in store. They have a pretty good selection, but also seem to have pets at a cafe, Petco, or fosters. So not everyone on their website is at the place for adoption. Nice staff too.

If you are looking for the perfect place to find your new best friend, GO TO KC PET PROJECT! I recently adopted my dog, Enid from their KCCAC location. They were insanely kind and informative through the whole process. One kind volunteer even sat down to talk about my excitement while I waited! Such lovely volunteers who are so so hardworking and dedicated to what they do. Not to mention, they are so very helpful even after you adopt! I reached out to them for trainer recommendations and they gave me some in my area to help with Enid. We have since started training with one of them and we absolutely love it! Thank you KC Pet Project for taking amazing care of my girl. We LOVE you!
