If you care about animals, don't take them here! We had 2 pits roaming our neighborhood for weeks. They were sisters and they'd occasionally be in my back yard. They were very timid at first, afraid of everyone and would not come close. I've had dogs when I was younger, they looked hungry and thirsty so I started to feed them. They were 2 of the best dogs I've ever had. Friendly to everyone, playful, they never did a #2 in my yard, and they got along with all the other dogs nearby. Since this was during June, I felt obligated to take care of them and give them a cool place to stay. They stayed at my house with my family for 3 weeks in our backyard. They only issue I had was that the dogs needed medical attention and I didn't have the time, so I called the shelter. At first they said they couldn't catch the dogs because they tried and the dogs wouldn't approach the officer. They said I should bring them to them. Later, they sent another officer and he picked them up. I asked if they would help the dogs and would they put them down. He said they would give them shots, but not put them down unless they run out of space. The shelter smells bad. When I went inside, the staff seemed like they just didn't care. I go back exactly 2 weeks from pickup to get the sister dogs(they were very close and were always together) and they put down one of them. They said the dog wasn't friendly and that's why they did it. I won't tell my kids, but this REALLY made me angry. Do not take any animals here. It is not safe for them!
Officer Hampton is amazing. She called me on her day off. I found a really badly hurt dog on my front door she is old and has no teeth. Officer Hampton help me get in touch with Friends of Henry animal Inc . Betsy and Officer Hampton help me get the dog threw Saturday now she is doing much better. Thank you guys for just being there.
I'd like to start by saying I only gave them one star because I had to in order to leave a review. I called them at 9 am on 07/08 to report that our family pet was dismembered by three pit bulls that were roaming our neighborhood, right in front of my 2-year-old daughter. They dispatched Officer Johnson to handle the situation. The officer contacted me around 10:30 am that day, stating she was 30 minutes away in Jonesboro. I explained what happened, and she replied, "This is the second pet this has happened to today." She further reported that they had been trying to catch the dogs for over a month without success. She then said she didn't know what to do because no one in the neighborhood with a fenced backyard would let them use their property to trap the animals. This seems like an extremely poor excuse to let three pit bulls knowingly roam a neighborhood, mauling animals and potentially attacking children or elderly people who regularly walk the streets. As I mentioned, I was given a 30-minute ETA 72 hours ago and have yet to receive any updates. My follow-up call was ignored and not returned. School starts in less than a month, and I would hate for a child at the bus stop to be attacked and possibly suffer the same fate as our pet and a neighbor's pet. Saying I'm outraged is a huge understatement.
I used to work a stressful job and would come here to get some pet therapy on my lunch break. I ended up adopting my first fur baby, Harley at 2 months old back in 2017. BEST DECISION EVER!
Update:: I called them 12/18/23 to come remove the dog off the property while I was home. Need to see the effort put into catching and removing this dog. Henry County Police department reaches out to me. The officer came to the house to wait for them to pull up. The officer then saw where they removed themselves from the route, and she dispatched them to come to my residence. The officer arrived to get the dog but had an attitude. She didn't even want to get the dog. I'm thankful the officer was here to make sure thar dog was removed. These people are so useless. I've called sthem out twice to pick up a stray dog. Each tie3me they called, stating, "They couldn't ceedeeaeeeeeeedtceh the dog because it kept backing up." They dtddold me that I would have to put this dog in my car and bring him or her. Why in the hell would I put a stray dog in my back seat? Is it not your job to get catch stray animals? Hire people who are going to get the job done. This is a freaking puppy; I'm calling you guys to catch this stray. Apparently, because I haven't been home once to actually witness the attempt, they can't be putting in any effort.
I have a 2 year old German Shepherd/Black lab mix that I’m no longer in the proper position to care for. This shelter is my last resort, is there anything can be done?
