I had a wonderful experience in adopting Watson (now known as Huckleberry) through Henry County Humane Society (HCHS). My understanding is that it is an all-volunteer organization, and as a result, the hours when the shelter is open are very limited. But the shelter was clean and safe. Watson had clearly been very well cared for after he and 13 other dogs were rescued from a hoarding situation. He'd been given good care by a vet, and his coat and teeth were beautifully clean. HCHS had his altering surgery done, and all his vaccinations, and everything HCHS had done for him was very well documented to me. All that being considered, the adoption fee seemed very reasonable to me. I applied online and was contacted by email a few days later by Susan at HCHS, and shortly after was able to set up my meet and greet. Huckleberry is the perfect addition to my family, and I love him!

I have adopted a CHILD but cannot get approved to adopt a CAT. I don’t understand how their guidelines for proper animal care were established but they are actively preventing these animals from finding loving homes.

We had the absolute best experience adopting our amazing puppy formerly known as Rolo (now Lumiere). The place is very clean, and you can tell how much the people care and take pride in their work here. The adoption process was straightforward and easy especially for being a first time adoption for us! He came neutered, vaccinated, and they provided us with food, flea and tick medication as well as his first leash. 100% recommend!

Needed assistance surrendering a dog I could no longer keep and this was their email response: “ We can’t help. Try returning him to the people you got him from or look for pitbull rescue groups”. I get them being full but what a way to respond :/

The people that work here are all obese as hell. When I went to adopt they were more interested in what they were ordering for lunch instead of adopting dogs to a good home. Of course I never heard anything back after I did the application, probably because the fat lady at the front desk is keeping them to eat. Who knows?

Great communication. And after we provided the necessary paperwork, which totally agree is a must, we got our sweet dog. Thank you! I could tell she was loved while in your care.
