Description We are a next-generation full service small animal veterinary hospital. We are proud to offer services that minimize pain and allow our pets to get back to health faster. We have championed laparoscopic surgeries in San Diego and is a prime example of our commitment to doing what is best for your pet. We also offer low volume vaccines, perform gold standard dentistry (learn more on our website on how vet dentistry is NOT the same everywhere, in fact the majority of places do it poorly), our doctors have monthly journal club meetings, and a lot more. We have 2 locations for your convenience. Come see how we are different!

Dr. Ecker is the best! I am admittedly a crazy dog mom and spent hours and hours researching vets who would do a LOVE spay. Dr. Ecker's name kept coming up with the most positive reviews so we booked our first appointment with him. Our rescue is afraid of everything and from the start Coastal Animal Hospital and Dr. Ecker were so kind and accommodating. He listens, explains things in detail and doesn't make you feel rushed during your appointment. The staff also does a great job making sure your pet has a fear-free experience. Highly recommend this vet and clinic.

AMAZING. My dog Kingston was exhibiting strange behavior out of the blue and needed to be seen right away. Dr. Plasterer fit my dog into her busy schedule as a drop off so he could be seen same day. She was thorough with explaining everything that needed to be done and really did a good job walking me through all the different options. My pup walked out much better than when he came in. No matter the doctor I’ve had great experiences, but I just really appreciate their communication and thoroughness every time. The standard of care is there. My pup is always comfortable going there as well :) I love the staff from the front to the back. Thank you guys!

As a former vet tech, current dog trainer and Fear Free certified I had a very unpleasant experience with Dr. Sheldon. Nothing about her approach with me or my dog was representative of Fear Free. Instead she was rude, disrespectful, unprofessional and way too rough with my dog. I brought her in because she was eating intermittently, walking behind on our walks, crying in pain when lifting her up. I had been observing her for several days and as she got worse I called this hospital because they if o e vet who was certified as Fear Free and this means a lot to me. Dr.Sheldon manhandled my 9.5 dog. She overdid palpating her neck. By this I mean when my dog showed clear resistance at a certain point she continued to force her to move her neck. I do t know if she was waiting for her to scream in pain or what. I could see her resistance, anyone could have but she kept on. I had to say something for her to stop. Then she wanted to do a whole work up as I see she does with other clients after reading reviews but with my background I was able to say what I wanted not what she wanted. I take a step by step approach. I wanted bloodwork done before we proceeded with further testing. She wasn’t happy with that. It’s my dog and I get to have a day in how we proceed. There’s more to this but I think this is enough. I did email the hospital manager about my experience and I advise others do the same. Reviews are great but a direct conversation with the manager might be the only way for change to occur. When you bring your pet to the vet your vet should include you in the decision making not tell you what to do. You know your pet best and they need to learn how to listen. This hospital has an agenda IMO. Work up the tests for profit is their first interest. Your pet is secondary. Beware. Ask questions and don’t be afraid to say no let’s take this one step at a time.

Dr. Sheldon and the rest of the staff are great. My dog can get nervous in new settings with new people handling her but she seems to feel comfortable at Coastal Animal hospital. Dr. Sheldon is communicative and helpful. Great experience from ease of scheduling, front desk staff, waiting area, and the care my dog gets.

We are so grateful to have found such a great Team of professionals to care for our two dogs. We were looking for a veterinarian who offers less invasive spay options and were delighted after our consultation with Doctor Brian Evans to schedule a "Love" spay for our puppy. Doctor Ecker performed the surgery on Shiloh Tuesday and she is recovering very nicely. As promised we will be heading out for our first walk tomorrow! We highly recommend the Coastal team for your pets needs.

Coastal has always taken excellent care of our dog. The staff is friendly and helpful. Our dog is anxious, and they work very hard to make sure she's comfortable.
