I picked up my little kitty girl today and was pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness of this facility. I adopted 2 kitties from a Louisville shelter 3 1/2 years ago and the stench was overwhelming. No odor at the New Albany shelter. People are super nice and obviously care about the fur kids. Robyn went over the paperwork with me and was super thorough. This was a positive experience and I encourage everyone to go to this shelter for a new fur kid or donate to them.
Two dogs showed up on our porch this morning. Fortunately the folks at the shelter were already on the phone with the owners by the time I brought the pups by! Everyone was super friendly.
Trying to honestly adopt a pup seemed to be harder then it should. I felt my honesty was seen as a problem. I could only adopt from certain criteria due to household but it was a weight thing not breed, age, or even health. I have young kids but very experienced with animals. This was disheartening as I have worked with rescues and want what is good for the animals not my feelings, but they made me feel as a burden and I'm just trying to help. Want a pup with no food aggression and under 25lbs
Not long after we adopted a dog from them, who they only had for a couple days, we noticed his eating habits were not good. We thought maybe it was him adjusting to a new family, but nothing changed over time. We switched foods, again, nothing. It became worse and worse. A month in, he’d lost a ton of weight… I started feeding him strictly human foods like meats and veggies, and this worked, until it didn’t. 5 months in, he’s extremely thin, blind in one eye, swollen nose, cant walk straight… and we’re very very certain he has cancer. Likely started in his nose, and worked it’s way up to eye/head, hence the swayed walking sometimes… I asked them to please take him back so he could get some help.. (due to the signs showing quickly, we strongly feel we were sold a sick dog) and they said there was nothing they could do for him as they don’t have any vets on staff to check him out if I do surrender…. So this concluded to me, that he likely wasn’t given a full clean bill of health before being adopted. Just neutered and sent out the door… They said I was welcome to bring him in anyways for surrender even though they couldn’t do anything for him.., but that it’d be 2.5 months before I could do so…. And I don’t think he’s going to make it that long sadly. 15 months old and no one could care less that he’s suffering or needs care that most people likely can’t afford right now…
They are super nice and very well ran, I’ve adopted two cats from them over the last few years and they’re both thriving !
Absolutely garbage. The fact that they pretend to help people is disgusting. I came in crisis with an animal needing to make sure it got to a safe and secure environment due to losing my housing and the entire staff except for one person treated me and my cat worse than anything I expected by people claiming to love animals. They were extraordinarily uncaring in how they looked at me and spoke to me, and the way they acted let me know that they were just waiting for me to leave so they could laugh at me. Go here if you want to be treated as subhuman by a less than helpful staff that couldn’t even pretend to bother that they wanted to help me or my poor baby.
