I love this humane society location. They work with me very well on accepting straight animals since I am not a licensed rescue. They provide intake dates ahead of time so that you can plan. They are very small so they can't accept a lot of animals. But they do get them adopted out in various locations fairly quickly. So the animals don't sit in the shelter for a long time. They do have some working cats or barn. Cats occasionally whereas most other shelters will just euthanize them. Many people keep spreading rumors that they are not a no-kill shelter. And that they euthanize, this is not true. I brought many animals there that were still scared and not entirely friendly. But we're adoptable and they've never euthanized any of them. If they have an issue i'm notified and I can take the kitty back and socialize it a little bit more. I am an official foster and they work very well with me. Providing food and medication for the animals I foster. Staff are very kind and very efficient, but extremely busy because they are a smaller location and they are rural, but also highly needed.
My sisters and I went here looking for a kitten to adopt for my other cat so he wasn’t lonely. We found the perfect, sweetest little kitty and decided she was the one. When filling out the application, I hadn’t realized you had to be 21 to adopt pets. Me being 18, i thought i could just have my sister adopt it for me, given that i already have a cat and am very capable and financially stable enough for another one. We hadn’t realized you are not allowed to do that and is apparently “a policy violation.” We decided then, my sister could just adopt the cat herself since we loved the kitty so much and didn’t really care who it went home with. My sister asked if she could refill the application out for herself but she was denied the adoption completely. I understand there are policies and rules they have to follow for pet adoptions, but the fact that they denied my sister the kitten because we were unaware of the policies is incredibly infuriating. The lady who helped us out was actually no help at all, very blunt, and very much not understanding. I will NOT be trying to adopt from here again. Horrible service. This is exactly why this place has such a problem with overcrowding of animals. I don’t wish this experience on anyone else as it was very heartbreaking.
Update: Unfortunately, one that we adopted had an eye infection at the time of adoption. We called the day after we brought him home to state concerns, they said give him 4 days. On the 4th day his eye looked terrible so he was brought in when they opened. They tried to hand out eye drops without anyone looking at him, he hadn't even been out of the carrier. When it was demanded to have him looked at, they brought someone up to the front desk and stated something was definitely going on. They made an appt next door for an "emergency" appt scheduled for 4 1/2 hours later because they would be going to lunch. Made the decision to go to our regular vet immediately, who worked him in quickly over their lunch break. It was determined his eye is a loss and had to have it surgically removed this afternoon. It was being eaten away by a severe ulcer. He hadn't been home a week and the condition likely worsened under anesthesia while being neutered. He also had ear mites. I understand they are overwhelmed with pets but definitely unsatisfied with the level of care or concern. I rarely write negative reviews but we are disappointed and sad our 5mth old kitten is having emergency surgery and losing an eye. Original post: Amazing humans work here! We went in to adopt one kitten and then decided to get two, they stayed a few minutes past closing to accommodate us. Everything was well explained and all our encounters were friendly.
Unfortunately, I can't recommend this place to adopt from. I adopted a cat from them that had some serious issues such as not peeing in the litter box. I resolved the issues after the first 2 months. They were fully aware I have a well trained dog. They were completely unconcerned about the dog. The cat had previously been returned for prior issues of peeing outside the litter box. They had no issues with me adopting the cat. Fast forward to now, I saw a dog currently available for adoption and met him twice in person. I filled out an application. My application was put in first. I was told I could foster to adopt. Now I was told I can't do that, but I could adopt another dog just not this one. And they also told me that another employee where the dog is being housed wants to adopt the dog. They're so worried about my cat and this dog. It's ridiculous. They are aware I've adopted other rescue dogs that have had issues in which I have had to train them and take them to professional trainers. I have called and asked to speak to the manager Allison and was denied that opportunity. Needless to say, I'm done with this place. There other rescues that don't act like this. This type of behavior is very disappointing. I was hoping to add this dog to my loving family. They would probably have a higher adoption rate if they would stop playing games. These animals just want a forever home.
Always very helpful and professional. They do a lot to help our community and the pets in it. They recently took a sick stray kitten my son found, and they've been very kind when we call and check on her.
- Excessively rude staff (you should match their demeanor, people hate that) - Kill Shelter (If you cant sell it, kill it) - "NO ID & SPAY FEE"; trying to dictate the public into splitting their animals open. (the manager & directors need get their bits removed, not my dog.) -I HAVE TO PAY MONEY BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE MY DOG CUT OPEN AND HAVE BODY PARTS REMOVED? YOUR INSTITUTE VOLUNTARILY TAKES IN CAPTURED ANIMALS. THEN YOU TRY TO SUBJECT THE PUBLIC TO NONSENSE BECAUSE THE 27 DIRECTORS LIVE LIKE THE 20%. THEIR VEHICLES COST MORE THAN THE ENTIRE BUILDING. THE PRIVATE MEMBERSHIP DUES, FOUNDATION GRANTS, BEQUESTS AND DONATIONS WOULD BE ENOUGH IF EVERYTHING WASN'T RAN ON GREED. Your a fool if you think any of these places are here to "help" animals. They even say it on their website themselves that they consider animals as property. They are here to make money off of you & community charities and the poor animals they capture. But hey, if they cant sell it, they can just kill it, amirite? We need to force legislators to be more strict on "nonprofits" that profit.
