If you are looking into adopting a fur baby, this is the place to go! I have adopted 2 animals (cat and dog). They have accommodated to me and my animal’s needs. When I lost my first pet cat (Merl) my dog(Sid), his buddy, quickly went down hill (he was 14/15 years old at the time). I shared my story with them and asked if it was possible if he could pick out a potential new cat friend. Without hesitation, they welcomed my suggestion and immediately made arrangements for Sid to come pick out his new friend. I mean, how can someone not appreciate that!?! They wanted to make sure Sid was happy. That meant the world to me. He ended up becoming friends with Bagheera, and we took him home that day. Sadly, within less of year, Sid went over the rainbow bridge too. Naturally, I was devastated. After a few weeks, I reached out to them again, sharing the loss of Sid and my unbearable grief. They listened, empathized, and understood my pain. Then, along came Robby. They already knew how Bagheera was great with dogs and knew he and Robby would be a perfect match, and they were right. SVAS helped Sid(and I) fill his void with losing Merl, and now they helped me again with losing Sid. It became a full circle. And for that, I will forever be loyal to them and would recommend to anyone who is in search for a new fur baby. Thank you Shenango Vally Animal Shelter!
3 years ago I ran into the manager here. Rude, nasty liar. I would never go back there for anything again. Contacted humane society and explained my situation and NOONE would do anything about it. The other employees were fine but remained quiet. Never recommend the place due to the female manager. I still have paperwork from there with her information on it. I will never forget the horrible experience there!!!!
Staff is very rude! Brought my client there to see about a pet (hers passed) she’s handicapped so I had to get her close to the door. Rude lady suggested I move her car because I ruined the grass.. THERE IS NO GRASS! Nothing but mud puddles. I’d think they’d be more focused on the building it’s terrible. They don’t seem to want to get rid of the dogs I believe they do it for donations. There’s other places in the area that could use the donations & actually trying to get the pets in loving homes. Lady told my client not to bring me back there as if it’s an honor to visit a trash box. I feel bad for the pets someone should investigate them. I’m happy to have my Pug Tommy I couldn’t imagine him having to be there for any reason. Good luck with this place
Been looking to adopt a dog since my beloved pup passed. I contacted this facility, with the same answer as all the others: meet and greet required, fill out an app, once we reach capacity apps we will review each one and choose the best home. Seriously??!! What happened to going in, picking a dog, paying the fee and taking it home? Since when did dog adoption become a popularity contest or a Miss America pageant?! Also, the girl I spoke to was incredibly snotty and smug. Keep your dogs in their cages their whole lives or take them home but DO NOT put them on line for adoption cause you will never adopt them out to ANYONE. This is frustrating and ridiculous and I am sick of these shelters claiming to 'only want the best for their animals.' If that were 100% true, they would prevent them from spending their lives alone in a cold, concrete cage waiting for JUST THE RIGHT PERSON! They need to get off their high horse and close the shelter and just take all the animals home themselves if they are so worried about them.
The absolute worst animal shelter you could ever walk into. Such a very small place with terrible management. All I wanted was a kitten that they had posted Emma. My family and I fell in love with her and I drove almost two hours to get denied because they were “too busy.” Before I made the trip, I had called the shelter and asked if I could come in today. The lady on the other line said “yes I will make an exception” It’s almost if they want the animals in there shelter to stay there. I came in with proper identification, a cat carrier with blankets and toys and I was still denied. All I wanted to do was to bring a kitten home.
Small shelter , staff : some very helpful , others not so much , my complaint none of the staff communicates with each other (they had no clue I had been in , filled out an app to adopt) was told I would get a call on a Thursday , never did I called them Friday they had no idea what I was talking about , told me to call back the following day , the staff I talked to on Saturday made things happen and I was able to bring my boy home that day ! I adopted a pit that had been running my area for 3 weeks from them , price was great , love my boy . Shelter is kept clean .
